lol, is that all MS could manage with an early launch, cheaper hardware, and better multiplatforms?
The saddest part is that even though its on the verge of losing that tiny lead it may have, people are still boasting about it.

Yeah, and no RROD happened which hurt a *lot* of sales in the beginning. Interesting how only good arguments come in for 360 to defend PS3...

No it didnt hurt it actually, it actually led to more sales and I bet the units MS replaced were counted in their 'sales' data

Those are highly interesting conspiracy theories you have.

I on the other hand believe that with the Gronkonian plastic known as "zelphor" that M$ was able to cultivate on the planet Gronkasia (they of course won the bidding war for the engineering project, beating out Wheegoti, the intergalactical fuel enterprise, since 1 US dollar currently converts into 32 Spacebux) that M$ was then able to produce mass quantities of the console and with the help of the nerds on the ice planet Pligton, were able to solve the RROD crisis.

can you imagine 360 beating Ps3 and the meltdown over the internet?
that would be fun to watch

No more than the meltdown of xbox owners continually going on about how the PS3 would never catch the 360. And how they quickly wanted to move to next gen when they realised it HAD caught up. Now that the X1 is getting soundly beaten by the PS4 they're harking back to the 360. Hypcricy at it's finest.

4 years ago i said it wouldn't catch it on time, aka before next gen launch, and im a prime example of the group you speak of

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

It really doesn't make sense (that X360 would be still ahead) when you look at shipments for whole year.

X360 by quarters: 1.3 million, 1 million, 1.2 million, 3.5 million = 7 million
PS3 by quarters: 3.4 million (this still had PS2?), 1.1 million, 2 million, 3.3 - 3.5 million = 9.8 - 10 million

Thanks for the morning chuckle...  The day will be so much easier now!

It is near the end of the end....

80 million PS3 sold to customers.

80 million Xbox 360 distributed to retailers, not sold. There's your difference

Read both news carefully

All I gotta say is who cares.
To make some sad Pandas...
Look at PS3 vs 360 the Past few weeks. Even if this articles odd conclusions were correct, It wouldn't be relevant at this point cause 360 is being outdone by Vita apparently. Also don't mistaken Shipped and Sold. MS is known for overshipping. Hell even Xbox One has shown evidence with I think 700k on shelves as of the last official update. But again who cares. It's obvious PS3 has been doing better year on year and was/will pass 360, but it shouldn't really matter.

I just want to note, to the ppl talking about the RROD issue, it did infact raise sales of 360 for years. Atleast here in Canada, my bro bought a total of 5 Xbox 360's this gen because of this. My friend bought 3, a next bought 2. One bought 4. We never go through MS replacing it cause our first friend to do it waited 1 and a half months with constant calls to MS to get the new one and it Red Ringed in 2 weeks after all that so everyone said F it. Now it's known the casual person will just rebuy a system if they don't have a store warranty, so you shouldn't ignore those statements.

Okay. I'm a Nintendo fan and as a Nintendo fan, I need for this to stop. I'm standing by the "Generation ended when the Wii U released so everything afterwards no longer counts" school of thought. If we continue talking about PS3 vs 360 sales, there's a chance the PS3 could still "win". Stop it.

Agreed. We need to understand  that no one ever remembers who comes in second place so it's irrelevant and arguing over it is petty. People only remember the winner and that was the Wii, end of story.

D21 was joking, how embarrssing you took him seriously. But as I've said before, this is to make the sites numbers more accurate and this is a sales website, we're not going to not talk about it because you don't like people taking about the possibility of PS3 overtaking Wii, christ.

It's been a long long time since Sony and MS have used sold to consumer figures for 360 and PS3 in these statements.

Xbox is losing current gen so xbox fans clinging to last gen to feel good?? Move on please.

What a joke of a post, I don't need 360 to be ahead to 'feel good', I want the numbers here to be as accurate as possible. Just like I keep pointing out how Xbox 360 is overtracked in the US by 2m.

Edit - what is it with this debate which brings out the worst in people.

It is hard for them to accept the fact that some users on VGC actually want to see factual numbers, and since the numbers for both PS3 and 360 have been off for atleast a year, they are still living in the dream world where PS3 passed 360. I am actually not too sure anymore that Ps3 will pass 360 at all seeing as PS4 seems to canibalize the sales of Ps3.

Incase it escaped your attention, there will never be "Factual" numbers, it's impossible.

Of course you can when it comes to shipment figures.

Microsoft reach 70 million: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/10115/article/microsoft-ships-70-million-xbox-360-units-to-date-but-operating-income-plumment-94-in-q1/

Sony reach 70 million: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=149982

Microsoft reach 80 million: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/434439/worldwide-xbox-360-sales-top-80-million-microsoft-claims/

Sony reach 80 million: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/251375/sony-playstation-3-shipments-tops-80-million/

As you can see, their shipments match each other for the period between october 2013 and october 2014, probably meaning 360 has hold the distance in sell-throughs aswell. Sony has probably experienced low PS3 shipments during this last quarter, meaning the distance between them has expanded a bit more again.

And I can promise you: if the situation was reversed, I would talk about that aswell :).
