Can we also admit that Sony isn't important either? If so, I agree that both companies aren't important since Sony can be easily replaced by Samsung in many departments

But obviously no one else is gonna agree to that so I disagree

well, now I have to agree

Except the most important one. You know, making games.

Of course, they could just buy all the studios but they could also buy Nintendo and replace it.

Agree. But not change the fact Samsung can easily replace many Sony's departments. And before some users start to quote me, I am a secretly blind Playstation fanboy. PS4 is the only console I don't have.

But aren't we talking about gaming here? Samsung don't have a gaming department, as far as I know.

of course we are talking about games. It was a bit off topic, but the point still remain

Nintendo is irrelevant yet they are constantly talked about

Nintendo is not important so we have to talk about it

That's not what he's saying. It's not "either/ or".

the title reminded me of a couple of things said by some people a while ago

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

3. Nintendo makes the best games, period. I can only imagine that the ones pushing this idea either have very narrow interests or very little exposure. Nintendo makes fun, highly polished games, but they aren't the only ones, and many of those other fun, highly polished games have the depth and maturity (actually maturity, not M-rated, etc..) that Nintendo games often lack. I'm not saying that Nintendo needs depth and maturity, there's nothing wrong with what they make, but the lack of these does not make their games any better either. And maybe, every once in a while, when the moon is full, and the stars are aligned, they put out a mediocre title, or even a flat-out bad game.

So much incorrect assumption here.

I do not have narrow interests or little exposure. I enjoy everything from FPS games to platformers to racers, and I've owned and enjoyed non-Nintendo consoles in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th gens.

And I yet I still hold that Nintendo make the best games in the industry bar none.

If you're saying you enjoy Nintendo games more than any other publishers in the industry, that's certainly fair. But "best" is an entirely different beast because quality is subjective, which was the point I was trying to make. Some people prefer games with more depth, or more complex mechanics, or a more mature or thought-provoking narrative, so to say one company, which specializes in games typically weaker in these categories, is "best" seems to be to be a very narrow view. It's like saying Pixar is better than Warner Brothers, despite the fact they make very different movies.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

I love Nintendo games, but the last time the really pushed the boundaries was with Galaxy. I don't think they are trying that hard anymore.

Heresy! Burn it!

In all seriousness, that's true, but all things being relative...

well not everyone likes COD style games or yearly sports games. Some people like RPG's, Action adventures, platformers, arcade racers, futuristic racers, tactical games, puzzle games, snowboarding, rail shooters, and FPA's. Nintendo is the only publisher to basically cover most types of genres.

?

I'm inclined to say Sony produces games in a lot more genres than Nintendo (some being more popular than others).

They have: RPG, Action/adventures, platformers, arcade racers, simulation racers, futuristic racers, puzzle games, sports games, open world games, superhero games (hey, you count "snowboarding" as one genre), games that let you create, games that don't fit a genre, FPS, TPS, casual games etc.

And this list would grow quite a bit if you include all the 3rd party games on Sony platforms that never see the light of day on Nintendo's.

Didn't know they covered that much thanks. If Sony and Nintendo go, they will leave a huge impact in the gaming industry, but few publishers are going to even intend on making 2D and 3D platforms. Nintendo got that covered with  Mario, DK, and Kirby.  Sony makes amazing games no doubt, but EA, Ubisoft, and 2K can try to fill in (to an extent) what Sony left behind.

Quality is indeed subjective; hence it is my subjective view that Nintendo's games are the best in the industry, and I say that as someone with extensive experience in non-Nintendo games.
