where's the funny?
Good analysis- although I would say that if the WiiU was truly the "anti-Wii" then it would have higher sales than it currently does, because being the anti-Wii would include being a very powerful console, which the WiiU obviously isn't. Some of the people who are buying the PS4 and XOne now may have been tempted to buy the WiiU during it's year long headstart if it felt like a more generational leap in power, but instead we got this Wii/anti-Wii hybrid which although it's a great console in its own right, it doesn't appeal to any real audience in-particular.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
Well with #5 3DS may not reach the instal base of the DS, but looking at the sales ratio of 3ds/Vita to DS/PSP, you could say it is just as successful in that the ratios are much better now then they were last gen. For #6 the US is still up for grabs. It is pretty close.
But yes the list sums it all up nicely
You read Maelstrom right Rol? Well that's what I get from some of your views, you seem to think alike.
I do agree wiht your views though.
"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"
Great OP. Though I have always pondered, with a large chunk of the Wii user base being a bunch of people who never bothered with consoles before, would they have bothered buying another console anyway? As a result of that, you could argue that some of the Wii user base was always going to be lost.
i hear alot of people complain about Wii U being anti Wii and whatever. But what would be an alternative? Where they just supposed to make a more powerful Wii? Pretty sure an actually Wii 2 wouldnt have exactly flown of the shelves either. Would have done better just by the nature of being cheaper but not by much.
Very good.
Though with #5 I think you need to define "failure" better.
I had hoped Wii U would be better and we had many a conversation on this topic. In the end I have to bow and realize you were right all along.
Nintendo can't compete like Sony because they are not Sony. They can't have a powerful console and good 3rd party support as 3rd parties simply won't support Nintendo as Nintendo is too much of a software competition.
Therefore Nintendo simply needed more Wii. Lower cost console with truly unique experiences and games.
3DS I think started as a failure but will finish as a success because unlike Wii U, they can easily ignore its 3D feature, reduce its price to appropriate levels, and continue to create that unique software.
Whereas Wii U cannot drop the gamepad and that is the reason its $300. Instead they can only support it for 4/5 years and bring a successor. Even with low sales, it will still be long-term profitable for Nintendo.
Hopefully Wii U/3DS successor will be the blue ocean shark it needs to be.
