Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony the Undisputable Winner in Home Console sales?

Can PS3 overtake Wii?

Yes 182 34.73%

No 254 48.47%

Maybe 88 16.79%

Total:524

Enough data and evidence is in (as if you needed it before) that suggests PS4 will runaway with this generation, to what degree depends on how hard Microsoft fight with Xbox One, but whatever they do it's not going to be enough to take the lead.

Gen 5 - PS1 - WINNER!

Gen 6 - PS2 - WINNER!

Gen 7 - Wii - LOSER

Gen 8 - PS4 - WINNER!

So this comes down to if PS3 can overtake the Wii, the gap stands at about 19m~ having sold 9m+ this year (when holidays finish).

Can Sony do 4 in a row?

Also in the somewhat unlikely event Xbox 360 overtook Wii, the last 3 (6, 7 and current) generations could look like this

Sony > MS > Nintendo.

When did the X360 overtake the Wii? This is news to me...! (Article?)

And that's quite an early judgement on the PS4 you have there, Seece.

In my view Wii was the clear sales winner in a generation where the big three all won in their own way. That generation is over with Wii on top and a shared second place for PS3/360. Now is the time to focus on this generation where PS4 probably will win, but I fear it will be bittersweet since the market probably will shrink considerably.

"Also in the somewhat unlikely event Xbox 360 overtook Wii" I don't think it'll happen now after low NPD sales :(

Come on man, you can't seriously think PS4 hasn't got this locked??

I thought he said if the 360 over took the Wii....or was there an edit?

Nintendo won 3 times
Sony won twice
MS didn't win yet (it's a shame really, 360 had some potential)

If PS3 overtakes Wii then that is what will go in the record books, not opinions on who won what, sales facts. But hey, it's not set in stone that's for sure.

Yeah but all 3 are still selling and while the focus should be on teh current generation if either was to overtake the Wii that would still dethrone it. Heck folks are have been talking about the DS over taking the PS2 for ever now!

I interpreted that one wrong. Oops!

And I'm not going to make such a long distance call like that. Maybe next year, if PS4 is still performing very well, I'll agree with you. But as of now, I think it's too early to say. Even with the numbers as of now.
