Though there's still an audience for Zelda anyway, though Nintendo may not want to accept it, to get that type of number again (or close), people will likely want a darker Zelda. Twilight Princess brought that and was successful like Ocarina of Time.

Preaching to the choir man, I've been arguing since the 2011 tech demo that Nintendo needs to make Zelda Wii U dark, in the vein of Twilight Princess.

They should have done that Zelda game announced by now and make it ready for 2014 to get some momentum but they failed and still promoting casual games which interests only old Nintendo fans.

Actually, Wii U hasn't focussed much on the casual audience at all. Donkey Kong, for instance, is not a casual game.

Nintendo Land, Sing Party, Wii Sports Club, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Game & Wario, Mario & Sonic Winter Olypmics ... I'd say almost half of the games Nintendo's published for the Wii U are mini-game/party game compilations.

DKC though isn't a casual game per se though, you're right on that.

But they're not pushed as the system's focus like they were on Wii.

Instead, they've so far pitched it as essentially "the box that plays Mario".

It's ok OP. I know that feel. They are clueless, still blind by the Wii sucess, and that's sad.
This is not about how much the others show, or if it's a lame award. This is about Nintendo and a poorly presentation. This is just a missed oportunity, and a good one to shine above the others with something as simple as a new Smash trailer.

When viewers dropped like rock after a hour I'm sure nintendo was thinking we could made our sales double.

you say miss opportunity but every opportunity doesn't reflect in the right decision. This show didn't even have Sony. What does that tell you? Nobody Internet gamers cared about the show and most left less than half way through.

Let's be honest here. We are discussing about this topic when we could been both saying "did you see that that awesome Smash/X/Bayonetta trailer?" "Yeah, and everyone is talking about it!"

Would that hurt Nintendo to do? No

Would they be able to do another trailer in their next ND or simply point at the previously showed trailer? Yes

Do they need as much press attention as they can get? Yes

Is this free marketing? Yes

Do I give a damn if Sony and MS care for that thing of award and have something to show? No

Donkey kong was 2 most tweeted thing on twitter for like 3 hours. Donkey kong is coming in 2 months. Nintendo got the most this show could have gave and it didn't have much to based on trend of viewership. I would argue many came just see what nintendo had (nintendo fans) and left after donkey kong. The drop after donkey kong showed the  Internet award show  is made of people who already know about all three consoles and came for what they wanted and left. Nintendo needs to properly market the games they have now because people buy consoles for games they can play.

btw what press attention? Like show it on there website where you can already get info on all nintendo news? Seem circular and pointless. If you know gamespot than you know of nintendo if don't of gamespot than how will they know of new by nintendo. So, press attention point is pointless it assumes it gives nintendo to someone who never seem them or is not up to date. Gamespot users are up to date.

That was websites reporting the "news", not actual people commenting it.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Soooo, the fact that Nintendo had a uninspiring reveal at a terrible awards show watched mainly by a small demographic of 13-17 year old nerds and dude bros.. THAT is what makes you lose faith in the Wii U?

Lol why do you guys put so much stock into such a joke of an award show like VGX. I seriously felt embarrsed when I tried to watch the show.. and I was alone.

Anyway, I see Nintendo's reveal as showing off more of DKC, not merely putting all focus on Cranky. And considering DKC is one of my all time favorite franchises, that is not a bad thing. The game looks far more interesting than 90% of the generic cinema-heavy garbage I saw. And cranky actually looks badass as a playable character! You can freaking bounce on your cane across spikes for god's sake! What more do you want?

I fucking love Nintendo. I love them so much I'd move my whole family to Seattle for a job there that didn't increase my standard of living at all. Just so I could work for Nintendo.

I've owned every single home console and will continue to own their console for so long as they produce them. Day one every time from here on out baby. (Thank you quality education and good job)

However, who the hell thought it was a smart idea to go on a core gaming show that will ONLY be viewed by major core gamers and show a damn grandpa monkey to a game we've known about for over half a year?!

Those executives are completely nuts. DKCTF will be another great game Nintendo makes and will only make 2014 an even richer year for Wii U owners. However, its not a system seller by any means and definitely not a game type to appeal to more than 10% of VGX viewing crowd. That game will NOT get any of those viewers to buy a Wii U. It simply won't.

I an understand not showing an actual new game at VGX. Save those for other big occasions or even Nintendo Directs. However, show a damn game that would appeal to the audience you're presenting too.

There is no hope for Wii U at this point. Great games for me and other Nintendo gamers, but nothing to bring in the masses.

What game do you think Nintendo should have shown?

Go to the crapbox forums or something. You are not even a real Nintendo fan...

People getting pissed about Nintendo showing Nintendo games...

Meanwhile, for the second week in a row, Wii U outsells PS4 in the US...

The problem is that Nintendo really thought that Cranky Kong was worth appearing at that shown and making a big fuss about it, I mean how out of touch can you get?

OT: Yes, they have absolutely no idea what to do with the Wii U, that's why I asked in the "Pachter: "I don't know why Iwata is still employed""-thread, why anyone even believes that he is still the right person for the job, but nobody could answer that, they were all to busy making fun of how "stupid" Pachter is. Really Nintendo fans, when is the point when you admit that Nintendo needs to make some much needed changes in their management to even try to deal with the Wii U situation (of course I'm not talking to every Nintendo fan, but some have been very stubborn in admitting that Nintendo has problems).

All the while the PS4 has outsold the Wii Us year-to-date sales in 3 weeks....

You're exactly the type of Nintendo fan I'm talking about in my post above.

This discussion is borderline retarded. Nintendo is the only company out there doing what they do right now. Everyone else is doing games so similar that they all fill the same exact niches on the other two consoles where talking heads argue over which one displays more anti-aliased blood splatter and at what resolution.

Let's complain more about Donkey Kong and get back to arguing whether Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone or Battlefield 4 has the most realistic bullet holes.

Although in parts I agree with you in other aspects of your post is just as clueless as Nintendo. Everyone else's home console is in demand and vastly outselling Nintendo's. That's the reality. That's the fact.

Whats the point of "being the only one doing what they do right now" if no one gives a shit and don't buy the console? How do you make money?

The whole idea is to promote the wii u and create sales. Donkey kong is not going to sell consoles, nor is it going to entice anyone watching VGX to buy one. In all honesty it probably did the opposite.

That presentation was better shown on Nintendo Direct. It was horrible. The way the presenter just look blankly at Reggie and asked "is that it? Nothing else" sums it up. It was the wrong clothes at the wrong event. Something in Reggie's attitude makes me think he knows this.

Negativity surrounding the wii u is part of the reason it's sales are so poor. I am not saying this presentation did the wii u any harm but I don't see how it could have done it any good.

Great to see Nintendo fans saying what they think instead of blindly following and never condemning the company like others do.

Nintendo isn't going to get anywhere by trying to out PS4 or XboxOne those respective consoles. They stand a much better chance at being different than by being the same.

Apple has been the perfect example of this with their Mac sales. In fact if Nintendo were really smart they would do a series of commercials like the Mac vs. PC commercials where they acknowledge the strengths of their competitors but then show why they are an important purchase as well.

Donkey kong is definetely a system seller.
