Forums - Gaming Discussion - Quitting "Hardcore gaming" is the best thing I've done in a long time.

As of right now I am barely interested in "Next Gen" and barely interested in about every single game that is going to be released on consoles (other than MGSV), my gaming time became boiled down to 4 hours a week/month and I only play games that interest me that most find "Casual" stuff like Pokemon , animal Crossing, and also other non casual but "Not gamey" stuff like point and click games, Zero Escape and Nancey Drew series (Love them), those games focus more on characters and less about badass explosions and guys who get all the skanky girls, sorry but thats really not should be called "Rated M for Mature" , its immature, cheesy and lame , its like a bad b-movie plot with a game, sure it all depends on the "gameplay" you say, thats true, but most games nowadays are just long ass tutorials with QTEs and "Press X to not Die" with little to no freedom or actual gameplay , they're trying too hard to be movies but forget that they're games, and there is also the type that is more loved by gamers (sadly) crap like Assassins Creed and Far Cry where the "Gameplay" is more about "Kill 15 bandits to earn XP" "Pick up 30 wild boar skin to make a bag" in other words needless grinding for a barely enjoyable game that focuses too much on graphics, but sadly thats what "hardcore gamerz" like, and seeing how next gen is ALLL about that, plus microtransactions with mobile-like dlc that are barely worth it, its just not for me.

This is why I like Japanese games more than western ones, they don't take themselves too seriously and they don't try to imitate movies, now you'll be thinking "but you said you like MGSV!" yeah MGS had great gameplay , I still can replay them over and over without getting bored, because while they're cutscene heavy the gameplay is brilliant, something that games like Uncharted (yes I know, I'm at it again!) fail to do, when you finish an Uncharted game you just have a hard time going back again to play it, why? because the only replay value is to get those meaningless treasures so you get the meaningless trophies, its not dynamic, its very linear, and not "Deep".

But then you say "Why do you like ICO then? that game is linear as fuck!" you see, ICO is to me like Animal Crossing a very "Relaxing" kind of game, its not a serious one, it barely have any linear plot or it being a "long ass tutorial" and its just enjoyable to play, the same way as Mario is enjoyable, and thats another thing, the latest Zelda game tried to do this "Long ass tutorial" which is a shame since Zelda games are very enjoyable , while Skyward Sword was not much, the cutscenes were fun to watch but everything else was boring.

I've been an avid gamer and collector since the Atari days, and I've played almost every game that exist, but right now everything is very much a business, sequels that drag on the story for a long and play exactly like the ones before it

yes back then there were a shit ton of sequels too, but those games didn't have much plot , like mario they were just enjoyable to play, unlike Ass Creed which only gives you cliffhangers and all the sequels are basically the same game but in a different setting and the "Real game" doesn't start until 10 hours into it when you already done heck of a lot plot into the game and close to finishing it, its made that way so that people new to gaming are apparently considered dumb fucks to developers.

Tl:dr 1

I quit hardcore gaming because of the immature "Manchilds/Hipster chikz/Neckbeards" gamer community and game developers and how everything is basically a business rather than a game

Tl:dr 2

my favorite games are either considered "casual" or "obscure"  Basically everything Nintendo and Sony Japan (not SCEA or SCEE) makes, along with other Japanese developers that aren't "westernized" like Capcom and Square Enix

Stuff like Mario, Wii Party U, Animal Crossing, Gravity Rush, Zero Escape, Persona, Nancy Drew, Casual Point and Click games, Final Fantasy, Tales Of...etc

Stuff I don't like is basically every hyped game nowadays, all PS4 and Xbox One exclusives are barely interesting, Titan Fall is generic as fuck, Killzone is more of the same, Ryse is just... bad, Infamous is as bland as a Linkin Park album (same fanbase), Driveclub and Forza the only reason people are hyped for them because they're exclusive.

Yeah, I agree with you. Having less time myself, but that's not why I would never want to be called a "gamer".

I just hate the fucking sense of... Arrogance? Entitlement? I don't know the right word, but I feel more and more people are having meta conversations about gaming than actually just shutting up, playing games, and having honest conversations about games.

It's also promoting what I consider to be unhealthy habits. Playing for excessive amounts of time, collecting achievements, pwning each other.

I just don't want to be associated as a gamer if that's the image gamers try to create.

Personally I think you are just back to what real gaming is about: Having fun and enjoy yourself.. most people on this site have forgotten that..

In 3 years when you're buying a next gen console, I will be there to call you a hypocrite. Just prepare yourself for that moment.

Yeah thats basically it, self centered manchildren who thinks everyone is wrong for doing things that they don't.

I agree, fuck hardcore gaming. But to be honest I don't know what people call hardcore gaming anymore I mean what really is hardcore gaming?

If hardcore gaming means Ass Creed and Call of Duty and those games then I don'w want to have anything to do with it. This gen I played most of those games, I thought I liked them, but that was because my group of friends talked about nothing but those games. Once I actually moved from that group of friends I discovered how bad the games where, I even sold a bunch and got me money to buy a 3DS. Nowadays I went back to my Nintendo consoles, I don't know if they are hardcore or not but one thing is certain, I always enjoyed their games a lot more.

no I WILL buy a next gen console, I'm not saying I'm quitting gaming all together, I still enjoy it, its still a hobby of mine, but I will not be a "Hardcore gamer" , but my reason of buying them isn't going to be Killzone or Titanfall, or "EPICSORS gamez!"

I agree, for me a couple months ago, i just sat back and wondered why i played so many games. And i came to the conclusion that i was playing certain games, just to play them and be able to talk about them just like everybody else, not for the fun of the games themselves; so i stopped doing that, i stopped playing COD and most other fps, I started playing bf3 with my best friend, and i've started playing games that are more story driven (I.E. TLOU, ICO, Spec ops the line...)

Now that i switched up my gaming habits, i'm having more fun gaming than i can remember!

No, I'm hyped for Forza because I love racing games on real race tracks and as long as they are with 60fps. That's why i never cared too much about Forza Horizon which is also an exclusive.

And yes, some take all this "hardcore gaming " way too serious and that's why forums are a mess right now.

I think you're being very dishonest with yourself. I don't buy products in which I "barely" have interest. Not buying a next gen console isn't quitting gaming either. There are many other platforms upon which to enjoy gaming.

Acknlowedging that you will be purchasing a next gen console confirms my suspicions.

With that said, I certainly understand not being a "hardcore" gamer for any of a variety of reasons.
