You missed the joke, read Rol's post again. ;)

If you can't make a great game in 1.7GB, you're not a good developer.

My intial intention was not to throw shit to this game, it was one of my lame jokes.

I am planning on buying the game anyway, I really like it.

Seems I was the one who missed the joke... XD

My sarcasm detector barely works in real life, much less on the internet.

No problem man!

The trailer at E3 sure was lame, the game did a complete turn around! I still got my Wii U for this game, I really enjoy local multiplayer games!

Game uses mostly untextured vertex color shading, not surprised at all. Works well with the high vertex counts and a cartoon theme.

...Or to accomodate more and better detailed textures, models, cutscenes and an all-round more modern game.

Maybe Nintendo should have listened to these "not-Nintendo people" during the N64 era.

Final Fantasy 7 could have fit on a larger sized N64 cartridge no problem. Most of it's discs on PSX were taken up by FMV. Same can be said for games like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc. FMV was the main reason why certain Playstation games could not fit onto cartridges.

not true... the prerendered backgrounds still take up a lot of space. Ofcourse, you could downgrade the textures to oblivion which some games did.
You can design around that limitation which is what N64 games did. But that would have changed the design of of those games quite a bit.

The game is 1326 mb with 849 mb in cutscenes. The largest N64 cart is 64 mb.

edit: mb not gb...

capcom fit RE2 on the N64, cgi and all.

With extremely low resolution textures, effects, and highly compressed video and sound. Which is what I said in bold. And it was one of the best ports, hardly easy.

To avoid semantic arguments., yes it would have been possible with worse sound, effect, and low res textures with no fmvs

Again^ Galaxy too up 1.3 GB.

Considering the jump from SD to HD, and the fact that Miyamoto even stated that this game isn't re-defining 3D Mario, it's probably using very little quality resources. If it were using much higher quality resources, it would have been much bigger, despite compression techniques. I would like to see a game with higher quality assets in the future, to really push the system.

Amazing part of this, is how over half the game can fit on the RAM...

Nintendo separates their RAM allocation into two caches on the dies that allow for direct access so you can do some mental gymnastics to get everything running very smoothly when it comes to that

Also I dont know where you got it in your head that this game is not "redefining 3D Mario" from because according to Miyamoto and the team it for all intents and purpose is.

The game is using high res textures, they're simple but hi res

Obviously we want to be able to see the individual mushrooms crumbs in mario's mustache, the goomba remains on the bottom of his shoes and of course some upskirt peach action to be able ot count the individual strands of lace on her undergarments.

Otherwise its not "hardcore" and just another kiddy game.  HD only counts for mature things, not cute things.

Irtupido be satisfied with your reflections and peachi's fiery design

Most modern games balloon in size due to cutscenes and voice overs. Nintnedo has still refused to buy into either of those things and use them in their games. This is why their games remain tiny.

Metroid Other M is almost 8 GB
Xenoblade is around the same
Brawl is 7.8 GB
Other Wii games like Metroid Prime 3 and Skyward Sword are around the 4 GB mark
Heck the first Mario Galaxy is 2 GB iirc

This is an anomaly, and who knows what black sorcery Nintendo is using.

Brawl had a lot of cutscenes...and they were long as hell.
