Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Aonuma Says Wii U Zelda Won’t Be Traditional

“So, by no means, am I tired of it,” Aonuma reiterates with a laugh. “Rather, the more we change it, the more I get fired up. Having someone think ‘Huh? Is this Zelda?!’ at first, then ‘Oh, it is Zelda,’ is what we’re going for. Something that wouldn’t make it matter whether Link or Princess Zelda appear in it or not. Something where it wouldn’t even matter if Zelda is actually a princess, or not.

I'm envisioning someone off-camera pointing a gun at Aonuma's head....

More or less my thoughts on that statement.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So kind of like how the last three games have not been traditional?

A free roam dungeon crawl would be cool. No set path. Just make it big and beautiful! No goofy visuals this time .

You will take cartoony Link and you will like it.

Valley of the flood confirmed. No Link but a guy believing he is his descendant, no master sword, steampunk, sad end.

Better ending - during the last boss fight, as you lay dying, the real Link shows up and saves the day, he had this whole adventure you didn't see and everything.

Its perfect!

Good; Skyward Sword mixing up the formula was one of the main reasons it was great.
I want more of that freshness.

I'm picturing a Zelda where you split time between being under the ocean, on land and in the sky with seamless travel between all three. Bring back the Zora and other interesting races with large cities or towns in all areas.

Imagine getting Epona just as before, but then with a transformation into a pegasus-like beast to allow you to take to the skies and then finally earning a Zora tunic that allows you to traverse underwater with the same ease.

I hope they find a solution to the "cutscenes". Skyward sword is cute ... but having mumbling and interrupting prompts isn't any better than the cutscenes it's taking the place of. It just means that they don't have to worry about voice acting sucking, etc.

They should (like most videogames) find a more organic, not interrupting way to do things.
