Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U games in 1080p 60fps: Does it really sell games or matter?

1080p60fps doesn't sell me on a game, but I'd rather have the games I'm interested in do 60fps. As long as a game does a stable 30fps then I'm fine with it, so long as I'm interested in the game to begin with.  A good game can be ruined by poor framerate.

The real world doesn't care about these things, you are right.

It probably helps with sales, but i doubt by much. It will likely become a much bigger deal this gen. Once 60fps or 1080p become the norm, having 720p or 30fps will makes games feel more sluggish and dated. (same was PS2 games can feel dated from the 4:3 ratio).

60fps and 1080p make games feel and play much better. Resolution is the less important of the two, but any game becomes sightly better if it's resolution is higher. (This is for consoles. When it comes to PC i can barley play a game at 720p in fullscreen).

i want games running smoothly. Some games like RPGs and MMOs can do well with 30 fps since combat in most of them are mostly automatic. Action games like The Wonderful 101, Pikmin, figthers and racing should go for 60fps. Shooters can run at 10fps is devs want to, doesn't make any difference...

Um, yes.

Nintendo games have great art styles that finally can be seen in their true glory. The galaxy games were great, but the iq was still horrible. Now people can truly experience the magic.

Honestly, seeing as PS3 and 360 were both completely capable of running games in native 1080p at 60 FPS (though the games wouldn't look as good as they would on newer hardware), I could care less as well. 1080p at 60 FPS is nice and all, but when a games only real strength, it means nothing. I would rather have a game running at 720p, that still looks great, but has other great aspects to it as well, than a game that doesn't. 1080p should be a bonus, not a selling point.

The Wii-u doesn't need native 1080p/ 60 FPS right now. It needs AAA games, and I don't mean a bunch more rehashes like NSMB, DKC, MK, or WW HD. I'm talking more awesome looking projects like X. Nintendo has clearly lost third party support to the PS4 and XBone. They need to go back to focusing on their in-house talent.

I personally don't play many games that are less than 1080 but to be fair it depends on things like the size of your TV, how far away you sit from it and how good your TV is at upscaling. And of course the native resolution of your TV too.
My TV is 40inches and I sit close to it for a largo FOV (field of view) for greater immersion so 1080 matters to me a lot. But I've seen people play on very small TVs from several meters away so it probably would not matter to them. In the end the relevency will vary between person to person. However as more TV's become native 1080 and the size increases it will matter more to more people as time goes by.

1080p is only going to be important to new 4BONE owners who need to show of their systems. I doubt even they will care much after that. It will always come back to how great the games are in the end, and 60fps definitely contributes to that. The games just feel so much more responsive and smooth. Not all genres require 60fps, but action games are much better at that frame rate.

No, it won't matter, because there are even a lot of non 1080p60fps in the PS4/X1 games. Higher resolutions limit the prettiness of graphics due to needing more power to render certain graphical effects with more pixels. Like last generation, developers will want to have more pretty visuals than securing a 60fps framerate or 1080p resolution in some cases. Resolutions for games like Battlefield 4, The Order 1886, and several others not even in full 1080p, probably due to wanting particular graphical effects, but lacking enough power for it to run in 1080p nicely (so, I guess they do care about framerate somewhat). I think Nintendo should focus on 720p60, and learn about good Anti-aliasing techniques (none of this cheap post-process stuff). SM3DW from the E3 screens do appear to show some amounts of FXAA in some spots, but nothing completely fixing.

Try picturing Forza, Street Fighter, Mario Kart or Call of Duty in 30fps. Those games wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable. People expect these games to have 60 fps, because the gameplay is build on it. When these games would go to 30 fps, that would definitely hurt the salesnumbers. Not because "it doesn't do 60 fps" but because the quality of the gameplay would suffer.
