Forums - General Discussion - What is the Best TV for Gaming?

DaRev said:

My Toshiba Regza (since 2008) recently died and now I need to replace it. So I wondering if you guys had any advice or suggestions on a new HD TV. My main concerns (besides it actually working) are that:

1) It does well with regard to gaming, so it has to have good picture quality with little (or no) imput lag.

2) I watch a lot of Bluray movies so good picture quality when watching movies is a must.

3) Must be at least 57 inches.

4) 3D is just icing on the cake and is not a must have.

5) I could go as far back as a 2012 model TV.

6) Costs no more than $1700.00

Thanks

Your best bet is to check out cnet.com or displaylag.com and see what suits you best.  Both sights offer detailed reviews including lag tests. Here are some links

Forget Plasma. Horrible burn in and the cost more to run. These 120Hz and 240Hz can actually induce lag input in your games. Games are either 30Hz or 60 , so these 120Hz Tv can cause the game to drop frames and "lag", unless your using 3D which essentially makes it 60Hz for each eye. . LED or LCD is the way to go, Sony , Panasonic or Samsung.

What year are you living in? 2002?

Over the last few years i have witnessed 2 or 3 recent plasmas suffer from burn in. Image retention is still a problem with plasmas, more so than LEd or LCD.

Yep.  I have a friend that plays so much NCAA Football that the ticker bar that is always at the bottom of the screen is burned in.  This is a plasma that is only about 1 year old.

Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
Switch - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
Switch - Bastion (2011/2018)
3DS - Star Fox 64 3D (2011)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Wii U - Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (2010/2017)
Mobile - The Simpson's Tapped Out and Yugioh Duel Links
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

Samsung and Sony are the two best quality TV's on the market for gaming. Either way you still win.

Panasonic VIERA plasma. Colors are unmatched, besides maybe a CRT.

The best Low-Lag televisions are both made by Sony. The 55W800 and the 55W900 series were best.

However the W900 series is pretty expensive so you should probably reconsider the W800 which is in your budget. One of the best tv's of this year. A lot of options and features and a very good quality but still gamer friendly, even when having those different enhancement options on.

Stories unfolded with my home made rap songs. Feel free to listen here with lyrics: https://youtu.be/vyT9PbK5_T0

Despite the obvious bias on this website DO NOT buy a Sony TV. Sure the quality is nice but they are way overpriced. You can buy a Samsung that is equal or higher quality for 2/3 the price. I also recommend the new M-Series Razor Vizio TV. Great bang for your buck. My friend just purchased an 80" and its amazing.

My sony tv ( a bravia) is great, but the colors on my Wii U gamepad screen is better. And yes, I've tried changing the settings.

I have an LG LED which is a 2012 model but its only 47inches. Its very good and would recommend LG smart TV's.
I would also recommend a Samsung TV.

I have a 4 year old LG that I've forgotten on for 10 hours at a time on the same image at times with health bars etc, and have NEVER had a burn in issue. My friend works at a best buy and tells me he hasn't seen a plasma returned because of burn in in years. So I'm pretty sure you're stretching the truth here just a little bit.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.
