it also happened with some sony's computers a few years ago, it's Sony Timer baby!! LOL

 actually, all batteries can spontainiously burst in to flames or explode. The PSP could have been off or on, and it probably would make little difference. It aslo could have been aftermarket or a sony battery, but sony's have a better chance at being safer, but there have still been problems with sony batteries as mentioned before.

There have been cases of cell phones batteries exploding burning peoples legs severly, yet they weren't widespread problems (like 1 battery type explodes 1 time, and never hear about that battery again). which is no different than this case. So again as NJ5 said. Devices with batteries should be kept far away from your body, whether the device is "on" or not it does not make a difference.

I wonder if he knows you can hit the sleep button and save your place in a game while turning the system off...

Lithium ion batteries are well know for self combustion - hilarious story.
My dell laptop had a battery pack recall for this reason it's battery is huge imagine that going off !.

but i dont think that a psp bursting into flames is something to be afraid of.. i mean, it has only happened once and it has been in the market for about 4 years
