Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NES experts, I need your help! Update! Rate my purchases.

I would think we have quite a lot of NES experts here. I recently got a NES and I'm planning to buy a few games. I'm looking for classics so I would like to have your opinion on these games in particular (I already have a bunch of really good games). Are they a buy or a "don't buy". I'm planning to spend like between 4 to 5 $ on each. I know that there is always those top 100 games of all time things but still, would like to get your opinion.

-Gradius

-Little Nemo: the dream master

-Gremmlins 2

-Batman

-Gumshoe

-Jackal

-Legacy of the wizard

-Wizards and warriors

Thx in advance for the help guys!

Definitely buy wizards and warriors. It has fabio on the cover which is hilarious and it's made by rare! It's a lot of fun. Very unique experience. I beat it multiple times.

I haven't played the others you listed except for Gradius. That is an awesome game.  Amazing graphics for 8-bit and some of the funniest power ups ever in a space shooter.

Batman is a very good Ninja Gaiden style action game. Pretty hard but solid gameplay.

Little Nemo is a fun little platformer. Not much to say about it, but worth a shot for 5 bucks.

Gumshoe is interesting because of the novelty of using a light gun to control a platformer. It's interesting, but I lost interest in it rather quickly.

Little Nemo

still, would like to get your opinion.

-Gradius- eh, didn't really hit it's stride till the snes version.

-Little Nemo: the dream master- definitely

-Gremmlins 2, was really fun as a kid, but i don't think this was actually a good game.

-Batman- definitely

-Gumshoe??????

-Jackal?????

-Legacy of the wizard?????

-Wizards and warriors-ok game, i'd give it a go

The only two I played in your list were Jackal and Little Nemo.

I highly recommend Little Nemo if you like fantasy worlds and platforming adventures.

Gradius is a classic, though not quite as good as its successor, LifeForce, which allows two player co-op. LF was one of my favorite NES titles. Batman was also good, but I don't know if I would love it as much without the massive hype for the original move that was going around at the time. Wizard and Warriors offers a great example of what it was like to be a gamer in the NES days. It's classic NES gameplay that has been a bit forgotten by time since it's not Mario or Zelda. Same thing with Legacy of the Wizard. Gremlins too is solid for a licenced game, but not one I was a huge fan of. The gameplay of Jackal was very satisfying to me back in the day, driving a jeep, shooting exploding rockets, and best of all driving right over pedestrians way before GTA made it cool. I just like the concept of driving a rescue vehicle, saving POWs while under fire from the enemy. Little Nemo is one of the absolute prettiest NES games with solid Mario-style gameplay, but it has a bad taste in my mouth because I rented it when I was home sick from school, so playing it makes me think of nausea, lol.

My top picks there for classics would be Gradius, Wizards and Warriors, and Nemo. Oh, and Batman.

Gumshoe is a lightgun game.. If you don't have the zapper don't get it

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Definitely Gradius hands down!

On a side note: Its sad that there wasnt a Gradius this gen. Guess Konami was all out of ideas on how to improve on the game since its pretty straight forward. But I would've loved a new Gradius if they make one in the future.

There was Gradius Rebirth on the Wii.. I'm more suprised that konami isn't bringing it to the smartphones.. they are bringing Contra while Gradius is a far better series suitable for touchdevices
