Forums - Gaming - Lack of incentive to get an Xbox One

With the removal of DRM, the new X1 will not be able toplay games without disks or provide family sharing. These two facets helped distinguish itself from its competitor, the PS4, which lacked these options(can still play without disks with digital downloads).

What Ms is essentially releasing is a console that has inferior hardware, 100 dollars more expensive, weaker first and third party support, more expensive network options, a controller that requires AA batteries, and mandatory kinect. PS4 has network features that will allow you to stream PS1,2, and 3 games. It will allow you to take over someone elses game or view their gameplay etc.

The last point is related to the need to download a patch to remove the DRM once you start the console for the first time.

The fact that you need internet to play without internet is a little silly. If they remove their verification servers and you format your old X1 due to some technical difficulties, you won't be able to play your games. They need to release the X1 with the patch preinstalled or else consumers are still just paying 60 dollars for one big rental.

For example if something were to go wrong with my PS3, there's an option to reset the system to factory settings and continue to play. If the X1 asks if you want to resetore the system to factory settings you wont be able to play single player if they close down their servers because you'll still need that day one patch.

With all of these negatives why would anyone invest in this console?

I bet there will be a rise in Chinese trophy farmers like gold farmers in WoW.  Trophy whores will pay money to a Chinese firm that has players on stand by to help earn those "hard" earned trophies.

i dont understand these sony gamers, how hard is it to get a one time activation.

I don't know because a PS guy but I'm sure the Xbone preorders will explode in US after today... you can show quote me in the future hehehe.

Edit - I will try to give a better answer I think Xbone have some really good exclusives like the Sunset Overdrive and Project Spark... they are titles that I want to play

It's not a one time activation. If your console acts funny and you need to reset it to factory settings you'll have  to download the patch again.

And that's where one of the issues lie. No one knows how hard it will be to get the patch down the road.

This is a problem mainly for launch window X1s, as I'm sure later consoles will have the patch preinstalled.

That is no doubt will be true. Sony has lost the US market to M$ and no matter how hard they try is all over for them.

Before the change in MS policies today the Xbone was really loosing US to PS4... that will change now.

Nor I. They wanted this after all, now they have it and we see threads like this and "How Sony beat MS in another format war" or whatever the hell it was...

LOL, wow.....wow, just....wow.

This is a sad world we live in.

I'm interesting in a 1, but less then a U and a 4, so I'll get it, just cause I'm a super nerd, but not until it's old and cheap, and I'll tape over my Kinect Sensor, which I don't want.

"more expensive network options"

do we have details yet?

"PS4 has network features that will allow you to stream PS1,2, and 3 games."

first: perhaps will have. it will be released in 2014, only in us and only for selected games. and needs a very good internet-connection.

The rest: What? There are no auth-servers anymore. Didn't you read the news today? Xbone is now like 360.
