Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why is snaking bad?

wait, is snaking when you wiggle the joystiq back and forth to the speed boost in marokart (up until mario kart wii) i'm a little out of the loop on this subject. And what's the deal? I mean why is there a debate? Are there people mad that this (if i'm correct) was ever in any of the mario's?

DId you play Mario Kart DS online? If so you would know.

Dumbass hackers spamming blue shells out of their casual asses is worse than snaking. Sorry for the profanity. I REALLY hate blue shells. I hope they die one day. I HOPE.

Or you could, you know, play a game that doesn't have Blue Shells in it. That'd be the better option than hoping Blue Shells go away as it'll never happen. They're simply a part of what makes Mario Kart Mario Kart. I'm actually planning on making a thread that'll elaborate on this very subject.

At least balance the damn thing or something. Getting hit and being in 4th-12th place is called UNBALANCE. It's irrelevant if that is a part of Mario Kart. Unbalance remains unbalance.

lol, double standard much? Snaking also imbalances the game, but it does it more so and in a bad way, not bad in general, but bad for Mario Kart specifically, as it limit's who has a chance of victory. Actually I guess it's better to say that it over simplifys the game rather than unbalances, but whatever! The Blue shell on the other hand adds to the race's unpredictability, which increases the fun and excitement and keeps us comming back for more. It adds to the whole "any player can win" philosophy the series is known for.

Mario Kart at it's core is an unbalanced high luck factor game, always has been always will be. The thing is the imbalance leans towards players who are doing worse, as opposed to mechanic abuse which is generally only used by those who're already atleast somewhat good. Notice how you'll never get a bullet bill or a gold mushroom while in first. It's like that on purpose, again to help give anyone a chance of winning. Of course, the better players will win most of the time (like me hehe), but that's just it, they'll win "most" of the time, not always.

Oh, and the Blue Shell actually has been balanced out a bit, just like everything else in MK7. It travels along the ground now, so it can hit people other than just whoevers in first. The main thing though, is that thanks to the second screen, you'll be able to see when someone has a blue shell, and potentially avoid it all together, or at the very least lessen the damage. Doesn't MKDS show you what items people have on the second screen aswell? If so the same can be done there.

Hacking is your problem, blue shells are fine. First place is insulated from almost all the hectic madness of the middle of the pack. Somebody in the middle is at risk of getting hit by bullet bills, stars, banana peels, koopa shells front and back, and just plain getting rammed off the road.

First place really only needs to worry about red shells from 2nd place and blue shells, and red shells can be defended more often than not. Blue shells are essential to game balance, or first place would be completely unstoppable as long as he doesn't screw up, while the middle of the pack just fall further and further behind as they fight amongst each other.

And yes, snaking is tedious. Drifting loses all significance if you're doing it all the time. Imagine if the game gave you infinite koopa shells instead of infinite boosts, wouldn't you get sick of just mashing that "shoot koopa shell" button? The winner of the race being the person who spams koopa shells faster than anybody else? Or infinite mushrooms. Mushroom boost would simply become the new default speed of the game. Not blaming the player here, so no need to get defensive, it's just bad game design.

Snaking is bad because it's both unfun and required. It ruined Mario Kart DS, it's the worst game in the series not on GBA or Gamecube as a result of snaking.

It's just that simple.

ahhh, so these are handheld game problems. I'll just show myself the door then. Real quick though; does anyone see the parallel between "snaking" in mariokart ds and "air dashing" in smash bros. melee?
