Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One is the Greatest Entertaintment Device Ever Concieved. Microsoft have Outdone Themselves.

They way the Xbox 360 has changed and the things around it from when it came out - Movie Streaming, Voice recognition, etc. even the Wii had been quite remarkable.

It will be rather amazing to see how much things with change by the next gen.

We could have cell phones with as much power as the X1 or PS4 in a few years.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

The greatest entertainment device ever created is the PC. I bet that even all those things were tested and developed in a PC.

The PC was not an entertainment device, it was concieved and marketted as a business device.  it's secondary function was an educational device for learning (programming) or school work (reports).  A tieriary function became playing games, and that didn't happen until later as the only games available in the early 1980s were text adventures.  If you wanted graphical games, you weren't playing on a PC.  In the 1980's, as today, if you wanted to play games, the console was the best device for gaming.  There were more games, using graphics, with color, and the cost to entry was lower.

PCs as true entertainment devices didn't happen until the 2000's, more than two decades after the PC was first created.  While the visual quality of games had improved significantly in the 1990's, the media capabilities of the PC as a true entertainment device wouldn't be there until the last decade.

If you're going to try to talk about the historical significance of something, don't do it when there are people who were there when something took place.  I mean your first PC was a square box, with switches and lights on the front of it, that you soldered and assembled yourself from parts.

Why does it matter that the PC was initially intended for? What the platform is now and what is does is what matters.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I don't know about it being the greatest. But the hate it has been getting is way overdone.

The cloud has some crazy potential if it turns out as MS intends. XboxOne games would eventually look a gen ahead of PS4 games.

Are you forgetting that Sony made a pretty substantial investment in Gaikai? They will also have the ability to harness this great and wonderness capability of the awe mighty cloud that MS is taunting that only they themselves have.

i already have the greatest entertainment ever my mother f***ing PC

Gaikai VS Microsoft on Cloud Computing.

Think about what you are saying.

Huh.  Yet the Xbox One can't be all-in-one, it can only be a video game console.  Odd.

Because the PC wasn't invented as an entertainment device.  Not in the least.  It was a business and educational tool.  To say that the reason it was create was as an entertainment device isn't accurate in the least.  It wasn't even an overnight thing.  As I mentioned previously, it took decades for the technology to make a PC a viable entertainment device.

Nevertheless, Jega never said that the Xbox One was the greatest entertainment device ever created or invented.  He said "that no other entertainment device will be able to match the Xbox One because of the software that will drive the Xbox One."  He never said anything about the Xbox One being the greatest entertainment device created/invented.

By the way, why does it matter that a video game console was initially intended for gaming?  What the platform is now and what it does is what matters.

I don't know who you are talking to but don't put words on my mouth. The PC is an entertainment platform, period. As it is also capable of doing a lot of other things. Whatever purpose there was behind it's creation is irrelevant, what matters is what it is.

He never said anything about the Xbox One being the greatest entertainment device created/invented.

lol what are you talking about. Read the OP and the title of this thread: Xbox One is the Greatest Entertaintment Device Ever Conceived.

What are you reading? You put words and bring conversations I don't start and then you are oblivious to what OP even is writting. Where did I say that the reason behind the creation of the PC was entertainment? Tell me where did I say that? Whatever purpose there was behind the PC is irrelevant, it is used as an entertaiment machine.

By the way, why does it matter that a video game console was initially intended for gaming?  What the platform is now and what it does is what matters.

I don't know. You are the one bringing the argument having to treat and categorize things because of their intended purpose. You are the one coming with this argument.

I think Micro is doing great, they should keep that direction and focus in entertainment primarily.

Ok, I'll concede the point.  He does say that in the title, though he doesn't say it in the body.

As to the second point, I'm not sure I would have used the words you used, because that wasn't the case.  The fact that devices evolve to become something else doesn't make the general purpose device the greatest thing invented.  A PC isn't made to be an entertainment device.  It has evolved to include that purpose, and with hardware and software, it can fill that role.  A gaming console can still be considered an entertainment device, because gaming is a form of entertainment.  Whether or not the Xbox One is the greatest entertainment device concieved or not, I'm not sure I agree with that.  I personally think the transistor radio had a greater impact because it made entertainment, including music, personal and portable.  Without transistors you wouldn't have anything that we consider "personal" or "portable".  There will be, one day, a new word to evolve the game console into a device class that fits what the Xbox One and likely the PS4 will be.  Because all three are quickly becoming more than a video game console.

Gaikai VS Microsoft on Cloud Computing.

Think about what you are saying.

Cloud is the new Cell. Think of the powah of teh cloud!

Cloud processing is not going to make games look better, the only way to do that is by streaming the whole game. Which will take a while until it becomes cost effective at better graphical settings then doing it locally. Look at current cloud streaming, the games run at medium to low settings. It's not cost effective to have a titan gpu assigned per user.

The cloud can do wonderful things for persistant dynamic worlds, advanced AI and world physics. The console still needs to receive and render all that extra data locally, resulting in a graphical hit instead of looking better.
Look at Eve online, massive online battles, at a slideshow pace.
Warhawk, average graphics to accomodate soo many players coming close together.
Same thing for having massive AI crowds in games, or complex fluids simulation, the extra detail still needs to be rendered locally.

(bad analogy actually, the cell did sort of enhance graphics in the end when developers finally gave the spes something to do with fxaa)
