They are targeting an audience that don't own gaming consoles I think.

Yeah, this is a bit enthusiastic imo, but it's nice to see something different than the masturbatory hate.

I personally think that it's premature to have any strong opinion until we see their game barrage at E3. I have a feeling they won't near have enough time to give proper attention to just the 15 first year exclusives, not to mention any awesome 3rd party titles they want to highlight. It won't full stem the hate parade (the internet LOVES to pile on and NEVER apologizes for mistakes), I think it'll definitely remove the "no gaming focus" arguments.

E3 will show consumers the games and as the launch draws nearer, the issues many have been legitimately concerned about will be clarified. Used games, licenses tied to consoles/gamer tags, transfer fees, connection requirements, etc. etc. None of these have been completely addressed.

Personally, I'm finding it hard to get hyped over the subscription tied services, the rates for which have not been specified. May not be $60 a year, and the XB1 may be fairly limited in use/worthless without the paid subscription. Fine for those who are already on the XBLG plan, not so fine for anyone else.

The PC was not an entertainment device, it was concieved and marketted as a business device.  it's secondary function was an educational device for learning (programming) or school work (reports).  A tieriary function became playing games, and that didn't happen until later as the only games available in the early 1980s were text adventures.  If you wanted graphical games, you weren't playing on a PC.  In the 1980's, as today, if you wanted to play games, the console was the best device for gaming.  There were more games, using graphics, with color, and the cost to entry was lower.

PCs as true entertainment devices didn't happen until the 2000's, more than two decades after the PC was first created.  While the visual quality of games had improved significantly in the 1990's, the media capabilities of the PC as a true entertainment device wouldn't be there until the last decade.       

If you're going to try to talk about the historical significance of something, don't do it when there are people who were there when something took place.  I mean your first PC was a square box, with switches and lights on the front of it, that you soldered and assembled yourself from parts.
