Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: Retail sources detail how pre-owned sales will work on Xbox One

What if there's no gamestop or other affiliated store in my country? What if I want to sell my propierty throught ebay or in person?

Terrible.

Checking every 24 hours is unnecessary. Why not just check when registering a new game to the system?

What exactly happens if you dont check in every 24 hours? Are they going to lock you out and hold the content you payed for hostage as if gamers are criminals?

Because otherwise I could rent a ton of games (or buy lots of games and sell them later), install them, not connect anymore to internet and play those games infinitely.

Id love to see how this would work in the developing markets, where the used game market is so big.

Hell, its huge in Japan. Will they get JP retailers on board?

Well, that means that people can no longer decide what to do with their own products when they want to get rid of them and that kinda sucks. On the other hand, I'm very glad to see that MS at least have the publishers/developers interest in mind, they're the ones losing out because of stores and concepts like Gamestop.

Ohhh, that actually makes sense. Why couldn't they just have said that at the reveal?!

How are people here happy that we are now handcuffed to retail chains or the console manufacturer for the products we purchased?

Do gamers really care more about the developers than they do about their fellow gamer?

This industry is so backasswards all around that it isn't even funny...

And ms forces its own proprietary azure system on all gamestops.

its a browser based system.. you could access it from your phone browser.. they don't need to buy new hardware or something like that.. and since its MSs own registration system Gamestop would probably get free access..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

On one hand more power to the developer and publisher.

On the other, cuts into Ebay, Amazon, all that private market stuff and Gamestop will likely give us pitiful trade-in values now that they have no real incentive to give up more $$. (Even less than now)

The negatives kinda outweigh the positives here. You'd need to be a really prominent retail chain for this to work.

Wow M$ is really just screwing with people in order to court 3rd party support aren't they.

"Unconfirmed reports on ConsoleDeals.co.uk suggest that retail’s slice will be as little as ten per cent. That’s a significant cut from what it has become accustomed to from pre-owned sales and more in line with what they would receive from the sale of a new game – hence, the value of the pre-owned market to the retailer is effectively destroyed."

"These same unconfirmed reports also suggest that the activation cost for consumers buying or borrowing pre-owned software will be £35."

£35 (~40 euros) for a second hand game?

And this kills competition from ebay or private sellers so people have to pay what they ask for.

Retail gets ~10% of £35 =£3.5 per game. I'm sure stores will be happy with this improvement.

I have to assume MS and the developer pays to the stores per game they get traded in, otherwise this smells like bankrupcy.

Now the reaining question is how much money they'll pay to people for their second hand games.

They are going to pay you absolute shit since you can't sell it to anyone but them. The market no longer dictates prices, the corporations do.

Guy 1: Hey bro! What have you been up to?
Guy 2: nothing. My X1 just broke..
Guy 1: really!? That sucks. What games do you have on it?
Guy 2: Grand Theft Auto Atlanta, Halo Condense, Final Fantasy 13-6 and Tales Of Runeldia.
Guy 1: OHHH BRO IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR TALES OF RUNELDIA EVERYWHERE!! let me borrow it, bro.
Guy 2: .. Its pointless. Its locked to my account. Its not like the old days when things were easy. Now we have to go through a bunch of wack ass loops just to play a damn game these days. Those 7th gen gamers really took that generation for granted. They had no idea what was coming. I miss the old days.
