I don't see why this is such bad news but then again I don't see how EA are such a big evil corporation to others. They really cannot do any worse then the games that have come before.

It's not just the games people have issues with, they trample and break consumer rights in certain countries like Australia, they blame their issues on the consumer, they price gauge certain territories and they have a customer service support center run by baboons high on cocaine. (Aka. Bloody useless!)

There's nothing really bad about this news to be had, they're giving a franchise which has basically been dead since 2005 to developers which have made gems like KOTOR, Mass Effect, Battlefield, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space.

I guess I'm very sheltered here in the UK having not had such issues but that's obviously not to say they don't exist.  I know from experience though that some companies treat different regions better than others.

Thank god.....someone I can agree with

Maybe EA finally decides to make Kotor 3.

Looks like there won't be any Star Wars games for the Wii U anytime soon.

There will be a guided first persom experience for the Wii U titled Star Wars : Extraction.

NFS game that Criterion... NOT EA... actually spent time on to make it a better game than the other versions, yet it was still a late release. (in itself means it will sell dramatically less, why did Ubi delay Rayman again?) While Criterion had good intentions, EA did not match that support and it also received zero marketing.

If EA had named them "EA EAD" (lol) when they bought them in 2004, would you be arguing that EA didn't spend time improving the game?

I find this line of argument ridiculous.  If they were a recent acquisition, sure, there could be an element of "EA didn't have a hand in it".  Criterion have been a part of EA for 9 years.  NFSMWU wasn't some covert undercover operation they did while the evil eyes of their slave drivers weren't watching.  Blimey.

You're absolutely right; EA has published some great titles, and their developers have made even more great games. But, let me counter your post:

Battlefield 4 simply looks an upgraded version of BF3; no new gameplay mechanics, only prettier graphics = stagnation. Mirror's Edge was a cool concept, but have we seen a follow up yet? Have we even heard RUMORS about a sequel? No, we haven't = EA's not taking any risks = stagnation.

2 out of 3 ain't bad, but, the 3rd instalment is more telling than any of the other 2 games; EA trying to squeeze the last dime out of that game with microtransactions; the latest game is more of an action game than the survivor horror it started out like, because it was supposed to appeal a broader audience (to make moar money) it "lost its way" and just wasn't the same kind of game anymore.

And you can't really pull up Baldur's Gate in a conversation like this. That game is like 15 years old now, and made long before EA acquired BioWare. DA2 is generally seen as inferior to DA:O, SW:OR hasn't done as well as hoped, and do I really need to bring up ME:3's ending?

All in all, it's quite easy to see how the quality of games published by EA has gotten worse and worse over the years... Or at the very least stagnated. EA is definitely the wrong publisher/developer for Star Wars! That's a franchise that needs creativity, which EA has an aboundance of, but not using... And that's the main problem here I think. EA could do wonderful things, but they don't.

We have seen one bit of gameplay from Battlefield 4. How can we judge how the game will be? We dont know what the multiplayer plans are, for example.

Mirrors Edge 2 is hazy, though its reported that DICE are working on it. Frank Gibeau also said the game was in development at E3 2011.

The direction they went with Dead Space was hardly surprising, after the huge success Resident Evil 5 brought Capcom. Granted, RE6 fucked all that up but the RE5 model looked like a winner. They went for the RE5 model with DS3 and it just didnt work. They had high hopes, but people wanted survival horror. Its the exact same situation as Resident Evil. Youre shitting in the hand that feeds you.

Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Ill admit were a bit silly to bring up, though BioWare are still credited with them. The Baldur's Gate series is one of the best RPG series' of all time. Think of it this way - Youre writing a new CV. 15 Years ago, the company you worked for helped to create the tallest building in Europe. Would you put that work on your CV? I sure would.

ToR, while its had a rocky Year or so is now doing great. Its a fun game and has a dedicated userbase.

I generally think EA and Star Wars is a great mix. EA have the money to push out big budget Star Wars games from dev teams capable of giving a top quality experience.

Give them a chance!

Its even better news when you look at the console Star Wars offerings of the last 5 Years. LEGO milking, mediocre/poor hack n slash and a relatively poor Kinect game? Please. Aside from 1313 there has been nothing promising for consoles regarding Star Wars since LEGO Star Wars was originally released.

No, it was simply a game that they were too deep into for EA to justify pulling the ripcord, like Mass Effect 3, so they sent it out to die instead.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That wasn't my point, but okay.
