I think you're all predicting too high total figures. I think around 150mil combined for all consoles will be about right, it could be around 60-50-40. But which console fits in where, it's too early to tell.

Why do u think the market will shrink so much? Casuals leaving? Shorter generation? Other?

Just market saturation and people not looking to upgrade to next generation. It's perfectly plausible that there will be a market crash because of the way the industry is heading.

Alternatively, it may not be the case and next generation could be the most successful ever. Doubtful though.

Ya I dont see most most of the PS360 crowd shifting right away and casuals not coming like they did for Wii/Kinect. Overall I see this gens numbers being similar to 6th gen

I could see a marketshare split of

PS4-40%(80m)

Wii U-25%(50m)

Xbox-35%(70m)

other than the numbers being slightly higher this is how I see it playing out.

My numbers r slighty higher or yours are?

oh sorry.  I think each will sell slightly more than that.  Like PS4 100m, Xbox 85m, WiiU 70m.  Keep in mind that's lifetime predictions not when next gen starts so still a drop off from this gen.

I think the PS4 and the nextbox will sell even more.   The PS4 will be launching in good shape as contrary to the PS3.  So Considering I think the PS3 can eventually sell 100M, I think the PS4 might end up selling 140M. The Nextbox wii have a broader spectrum, and considering they have M$ money backing them for marketing, I think it could sell 100M.  And the WiiU , considering that games like Lego City increased the sales, means that there is people wanting the console, but right now it has no games, so, when the big nintendo games arrive, the console will begin to sell, but it will be to late in the cycle so the PS4 nextbox with bury it.  So I think 60M.

In the US the nextbox will sell like crazy, but the PS4 will follow it closely (more closely than it is now).  So the Us nextbox sales will compensate the lack of Japanese sales.  In the US the nextbox will be first, but globally it will be second.

Foolish question. Since the PS4 is the most powerfull console ever, it has already won.

yeah cause power has always won things in the past *looks at Wii, PS2, and PS1*

He is just trying to troll the importance of power in a console while demonstrating that he is oblivious at the strength of the PS brand and what it has to offer beyond power.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

PS4 will be first, WiiU second and next XBOX a distant third. I think the next XBOX will do well in the US, but sell poorly in Japan and Europe

WiiU 2.9mil
NextBox 2.9mil
PS4 1.6bil

first 2 years.

That's possible, perhaps 150mil is a tad low. But I certainly think this gen was the "peak" as it was the breakthrough into the mainstream media, and it's downhill from here.

But that would still be a great number for all consoles, if it's spread more evenly than the 6th generation.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

If all the Xbox rumours are true and it launches at 499 vs a 399 ps4, then it will be 80% Sony and MS/ Nintendo getting the scraps.

I don't get why people think that the PS4 is going to do incredibly well. The most powerful console hasn't won since the 4th generation, because most consumers don't care about graphics. Also, we are still lacking a lot of information about the PS4, like how much will it cost. Most people that got a PS3 got one later into the 7th gen, and aren't likely to buy its successor for a couple of years.

Because the Playstation has always dominated and has picked up track with the PS3's last years. We all know how things went with the PS3 already and why it ended where it did. Micro did a good job at taking advantage of circumstances, Nintendo did a great job at grabbing people who usually don't play video games. Now Nintendo is in their usual place of previous generation and the battle of first place will be decided by which console between the PS4 and NextBox gets a hold of the gamers that are willing to shift between consoles. like those that changed PS for Xbox, and those that grab new gamers. Unless global warming gets even worse and dwindles the market.

Impossible to tell, wild guess anyway.

I still see the 720 winning as the US market will be the decisive one more then ever. The Japanese market for consoles will shrink in favor of handhelds and the European will because the 7th gen consoles will remain 'good enough and the ungoing financial problems in some countries will hurt sales in the first few years.

I see the total market shrinking. 720 wins, WiiU and PS4 tie and could go either way:

XBox: 85m
WiiU: 65m
PS4: 65m

The fact that the PS3 picked up traction in the last few years is why I think the PS4 will have a slow start. People that just spent around $300 on a console recently aren't likely to buy a PS4 early on. The ones that bought a PS3 around launch might, but there weren't many of those people.
