Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Elaborates on Previous Statement About E3

Last night, it was revealed that Nintendo was not to have a large appearance at E3 2013. E3 is the world's largest electronic entertainment exposition (hence the name E3), so a company like Nintendo skipping out on it seemed strange. The worry, however, was unfounded. This morning, Nintendo's Charlie Scibetta explained that even though they were not planning to have one large conference, there were two smaller ones planned. They are also planning to have multiple Nintendo Directs and are considering letting the demos available at E3 be playable by the public. The full quote is below.

“As you’ve already seen, a lot of news about Nintendo games and services that traditionally would be held until E3 is being delivered this year through Nintendo Directs, and various press events. This approach will continue between now and E3. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll be fully informed. We look forward to continuing to provide you with Nintendo news and content in ways you haven’t before experienced. Beyond the news that will be communicated through Nintendo Direct videos in the run up to E3, at the show itself we’re hosting two smaller events on Tuesday morning before the LACC opens instead of just our traditional one event. A media event and a partner presentation will both occur that morning. While the audiences will be different between the two events, both will occur on the Tuesday morning of E3 (June 11) which is the date and time period the public has come to expect for Nintendo to deliver E3 news.
At the Nokia theater we’ll meet with business partners (retailers, publishers, analysts, etc.) from the NOA territory and discuss our plans for driving the business and providing tailored information that this group finds useful to their operations. Nintendo has done these same type of business meetings at past E3 shows, but has not in the past few years. This year we are returning to that business partner meeting format. New this year at our booth in the LACC, prior to the show opening, we’ll invite a small group of media to play our games. We will have a strong line-up of beloved franchise experiences available for immediate hands-on play. We are continuing to consider exciting new ways to bring the news of our games and information directly to the players at home during the E3 timeframe, and will have more to say about that at a later date." - Charlie Scibetta, Senior Director, Corporate Communications

They are neither doomed nor saved. Hopefully some people will take notice that they are still attending E3, though. People seemed to have created some type of lie to themselves that Nintendo won't be there at all.

Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Actually now i'm more confused than before...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

If they did some kind of summer demo tour featuring playable demos of some of the games they show at E3, that would be a nice way to get people hyped up about their lineup as well as change things up from the typical press-only style that events like E3 are known for.

Of course, this is Nintendo, so God forbid they do anything that would get people excited talking about the Wii U in response to the massive hype that Sony and M$ will have by the time E3 rolls around.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

They're distributing what would be their E3 news on various Nintendo Directs throughout the year? Bad move and a very bad move not to have a persconference at E3.

THIS (the bolded part)

I still don't understand why, E3 is the biggest gaming event of the year. Revealing a ton of new software for the WiiU to millions of viewers would have been huge for the console. I highly doubt Nintendo Directs get the same viewers as an E3 press conference.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

They will have a meeting with the media to show you everything from the show floor as usual. Apparantly they just wont have the hour and a half show no one is ever happy with.
Reveals will come to us directly with nintendo direct.

Correct me if I'm wrong @ anyone else who understood (I just skimmed through it).

They'll have a booth where people can play the demos of games (which will be available for the public) and they will also have a meeting with distributors/partners (not viewable for the public) about the future.

But information about new games, hardware changes, software changes, etc will be given out on Nintendo Directs.

Yes, this is correct. This is very easy to understand... Nintendo booth at E3, meeting with partners, no large conference at Nokia Theater with media and investors, BUT announcements etc with Nintendo Direct-like shows at the same time. So gamers will receive all the information about new games and plans; press will play Nintendo games at booth and then publish news and previews etc... Not a big difference here. I don't understand why people so screaming, lol.
