I can't believe there are so many people that seem to think there is even a slight chance that Vita could sell anything even remotely close to what Wii U will do. It's really baffling because WiiU sure will have much much much more big system sellers than Vita among other huge advantages in comparison.

If I had to bet I would say:
Vita : 15-20 Mn
WiiU: 80 - 100 Mn

Really two totally different situations.

Will MK8 and SSB really make it sell 80-100 million? I doubt it would even reach 40. Just look at N64 and GC, even they had an MK and an SSB game.

Wii Sports is the game that Nintendo need to release on WiiU much more than SSB or even MK. I don't understand why people like you continue to compare the WiiU first party offering to the GC one while the Wii one is obviously a much better comparison and first party games on Wii were enough to sell 100 Mns console. This is absurd. Also GC when released wasn't in the same situation that WiiU is right now: WiiU has an advantage in terms of installed base not a huge disadvantage like the GC. People keep making comparisons with the GC or the N64 but that's a stupid one for that reason.

Nintendo still has by far the best selling first party ips, an advantage in terms of installed base, a console powerful enough to have at worse ports of most of third party games in the coming years... The only bad thing about WiiU sales are the actual ones but those can be easily explained by a lack of games that will soon be history, so really there is no reason at all to think this console won't sell really well in the next years.

Wii Sports sold so well because of its motion controls and the the fag associated with Wii. Nothing to do with Wii U. Its going to sell better than GC and perhaps even N64, no doubt, but I would be surprised if it even sells half of what Wii did.

That's just pure baseless assumptions though. There is absolutely no proof at all to think that a new Wii Sports or even Wii Fit won't sell extremely well again. It's like saying other consoles are doomed because noone cares about halo/COD/FPS/Uncharted/kinect anymore.

How does playing Wii Sports on a tablet seem appealing to you? People might get REAL sports games instead such as FIFA, Madden NFL, NHL, NBA 2K, MLB: The Show. These actually have an appeal outside of being able to control by moving the remote around.

those aren't the only games on the system -.-

I'm only talking about the big system sellers. Besides which other major game from Nintendo has the power to really make a difference and overcome the problem of lack of third-party titles? The answer is none.

how about Super fucking Mario? -.-

I suppose Wii already have an NSMB game out there for U? Lol.

talking about 3D World
anyways, this is a sales thread, not an argument house.

Wiimotes still work on WiiU you know, so what the point of your question? MK doesn't use the "tablet" in a meaningful way and still everyone expect it to be a huge seller. I'm sure there are ways to create interesting asymetrical gameplays with wiimotes and the gamepad for Wii Sports but even if there aren't what the big deal?

Vita - >75 Million

Wii U -

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Wii U - <30 Million

How could a console - with no big sellers to come, an installed base of only 5 millions after 2 years and a direct competitor like the 3DS which has a huge advantage in both aspects - sell 75 millions? How could it be possible really?

maybe he's one of those guys who believe Sony made the Vita to "last" into the 9th gen with no need for a successor? XD

Just for fun a simple thought.

Let´s say PSV will have a long lifecycle like PSP did (7 years until PSV got released). This means it has to sell 14 million unit on average for the next 5 years to reach that goal.

PSV right now is at about 5.7 million units worldwide, by the end of the year it could be at around 6.5million units. Therefore  14million would be more than double of what  Sony sold in 2 years combined.

The Wii U sales will pick up over the coming 7 or 8 months but not nearly as much as many believe-
Nintendo has shown a reluctance to invest the effort and resources needed to launch a console in todays gaming market- My prediction is 18.5 million for effective lifetime sales (sales until the next Nintendo home console is launched or the Wii U is taken off the market)

I own a Wii U (bought for my 7 year old Son) We loved his Wii (bought when he was 4) and He still plays Wii games far more than Wii U games- There just are not that many quality games on the Wii U - As of today Nintendo has finally released all of the games I had assumed he would be able to begin playing between the releases date and March+/- 2013 It has taken them nearly a year to deliver the games THEY announced and advertised for launch-

IMO the reason we are not seeing a Metroid or 3D Mario Galaxy type game this holiday/next spring are due to the resources it takes to make those type games vs making a 2d Donkey Kong game and a port more or less of a 3DS game- Nintendo has the resources to invest in the console, games and marketing for the Wii U but they have clearly not been willing to invest them-

I think the big question for the wii U is what happened after Spring+/- 2014? 3rd party devs will be even more scarce than they have been so far- for good reason (they lose money releasing games on the Wii U) -

My question to the forum is: Will the Wii U see a new Zelda game at all? I think it is 50/50 they will decide to "delay" the next new Zelda game until their next home console

Unless The BOD of Nintendo directs/mandates Corporate to spend the money needed to give the Wii U a fighting chance for success or their is some kind of major Mngmt shake up- then the Wii U will be lucky to break 20 mill lifetime sales- as I predict 18.5 million lifetime sales, I don t think either of the 2 scenarios are likely during the Wii U s effective life span

Nintendo can easily absorb the losses from the Wii U- but the problem they do not see is the credibility they continue to lose among its long time fans- they will listen to the vocal minority that defend Nintendo no matter what - the ones that will slam this post and similar post, stories and view points- but it is pretty clear that group of "Nintendo is always the victim" is a shrinking group and they open their wallet rarely. Many of that group have not even bought a Wii U yet themselves as they are waiting on the games they want- but they will skewer people like me who bought one at launch and are not happy that Nintendo is showing little faith in their own product
