Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Tomb Raider vs Uncharted argument has begun.

I think they are both pretty good.... different games really if you've played both, but Tomb Raider puzzles are definitely better, which is what it's known for anyways.

Tomb Raider does looks pretty nice too though lol

Not sure what you're going on about there with Batman and Infamous and Dante and God of War. I am strictly talking about Uncharted fans seemingly being hell bent on letting everyone know their opinion that Tomb Raider is just an Uncharted clone and nothing special. As if Uncharted created the genre or something.

Fact of the matter is you can list many different games that Tomb Raider has elements of. Resident Evil 4. Zelda. Far Cry 3. The Batman games of this gen. And yes, Uncharted. Much like Uncharted itself has bits of pieces of many other games as well. I mean.. you're talking in this thread about how the game plays and feels and all you have done is watch someone play bits and pieces. Come on. It's ok for the game to get praise and for people to like it more than Uncharted. Just enjoy an awesome game. Or I guess enjoy watching your friend play an awesome game.

By the way part of me wonders how annoyed your friend must have been as you probably constantly commented over his shoulder how such and such animation or such and such gameplay element or such and such setting is an Uncharted rip off. Poor friend :p

I think you know exactly where I am going with this. When games are similar they are compared to other games. There are people with PS3 who might not like Uncharted but a lot of people do, but compared to the 360 when it comes to action/adventure games with different themes the PS3 just has more titles and competitive IP's at that. When Prototype came out people with only 360's were acting like it was the only Superhero game in town but InFamous also came and so did batman and both of those games were far more balanced. A base for comparison always makes the gamer more educated as to what works in a style of game. When I alluded to the Angry Gamer Show I was talking about his amazement with Tomb Raider. Many people who responded to him said," if you think what Tomb Raider did was new you need to seriously play Uncharted". Its basically Uncharted with a more open world, but can't be classified as an open world TPS.

My Roommate and I had a convo about it, but we both know Drake and Lara are two different characters with different mentalities and aspirations. We discussed the similarities even though and he loved the game though. The only Uncharted he's played though was three because he doesn't own a PS3 or 360, so if he wants to see those games he just either plays or watches me on my consoles.

I'm alittle biased when it comes 2 tomb raider, since I've played all the old games and loved them.

Yeah but this Tomb Raider plays more like Uncharted, with a rambo complex.

My first game on my PlayStation was Tomb Raider, so i have a soft corner of this series. And when Sony unveiled Drakes Fortune in 2006, I immediately decided i would hate it, as it seemed to be a tomb raider ripoff. As I m playing Tomb Raider (2013) right now and having played all the three Uncharted. This new tomb raider has clear influence of uncharted on it.

Also who influenced whom, I would say there have been lot of batman movies. some of them good and some of them just nipples. Just like Tomb raider series. Then came Batman begins which showed batman in different light more realistic, not superhuman (ND, drakes fortune). Then came The Dark Knight which became the best superhero movie of all time (Uncharted 2 Among thieves). Finally "The Dark Knight rises" which was not good as "The Dark Knight" but better then "begins" (Uncharted 3 Drakes deception)

Now the next batman will be compared to Nolans trilogy, and hopefully will be influenced by it in someway or the other, like Tomb Raider (2013) is influenced by Uncharted but still there will be people who would disagree. Oh and the new Tomb Raider feels more of a Choe's orgin story then lara croft as i knew from the past game!

Thats one of the best Uncharted analogies Ive heard in a while. The consistency of the franchise is its hallmark. Tomb Raider has finally found its groove so all of the non PS3 owners or the people who dont like Uncharted are looking for reasons to shut it down when the breath of life that was given back to Tomb Raider is clear as day.

Tomb raider does look nice, but the game isn't quite as good as uncharted, im only in so far as sending a distress signal on the tower maybe my opinion will change towards the end

There's no debate, obviously the new Tomb Raider copied Uncharted to keep up with the times. And originally Uncharted was heavily inspired by Tomb Raider and copied a lot of stuff from it, with the idea to refine Tomb Raider to a modern audience who hates everything that is complicated.

So now we have two game series that Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay would be very proud of.

In a perfect world, non-PS3 owners would avoid using Tomb Raider to down-play Uncharted 1-3 and PS3 owners would actually play Tomb Raider before dismissing it. People, if there's any way to play both, play both.

Don't we want games to keep setting higher bars in their genres? Uncharted took Tomb Raider and mashed it up with Indiana Jones. Tomb Raider came back, and I do hope it raised the bar on Uncharted. If there's an Uncharted 4 (hopefully on PS4) then just looking prettier but being largely the same as Uncharted 2/3 won't be enough.

Tomb Raider has hopefully challenged Uncharted for best in genre and hopefully someone will up the ante some more. Maybe ND has decided to leave Uncharted behind, but I feel like they might want to milk the franchise just one more time.

i came in here to write ecactly the same thing!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
