Use the poll and share your thoughts.

We know that there is a great divide between gamers that value gameplay and gamers that value Story/visuals/worlds/characters.

So I'll ask you guys a question that will challenge your value system, and you can answer it in the poll.

This may give us a clue as to why certain people are happy with certain manufacturers and certain are happy with other manufacturers, depending on what they cater to.

The most important part of a videogame is the gameplay.

:) To me it's the world. Interesting aye!

Ive learned to enjoy both types. I recently played "To the moon" and while you could say the gameplay wasnt any good it kept me interested for the story part.

On the other hand, I can enjoy games that are "pure gameplay".

You just need what seems apropiate for each type of game or what the game creators want to express.

I'm content either way.

If the story is excellent I care less about the gameplay. If the gameplay is excellent I care less about story.

When both are excellent, then you have something truly extraordinary.

Why isn't Heavy Rain mentioned in the other poll option?

It said "excellent story" you fool!

What's up with the poll? How does NSMB have a bad story? Why isn't Heavy Rain mentioned in the other poll option to make it equally biased?

NSMB has no (or lame) story you admitted to it yourself in your parody thread, so I felt ok doing that.

I never played Heavy Rain so I couldn't judge. Think Dragon's Lair.

Well, the thing is they aren't mutually exclusive. There are many examples of games that look great and play great, games that excel on a technical level and also immerse the player.

However, if I had to choose, I would much rather game designers focus first on the mechanics and rules of the game, and work on the story and art direction second.

It's a mix of everything to be honest. 2 of my favorite franchises are opposite of each other.

1) Animal Crossing (Doesn't even have a story)

2) Resident Evil (I like the Gameplay too but the story of most of the games really keep my attention. Especially the 1st 3)

That should be clear to everyone here, at least I hope. Otherwise I thought about this and it makes perfect sence, it's easier to tack on a story to a gaming framework (like Zelda) than to tack a gaming framework to a story, but in terms of the end result if it's done properly I'm pretty sure the latter gives a better result, overall (since I value story+ more than gameplay ultimately).
