Ah... well, that's better than nothing.

It seemed to be more like Monster Hunter than Final Fantasy

that is a very logical observation that does NOT belong to another square flame thread

I doubt it will challenge Final Fantasy in sales. It been proven time and time again that even when they press excrement into disc form. Millions of people will buy it as long as it called Final Fantasy. It terms of quality the original Xenoblade already surpassed Final Fantasy. They were several JRPG's from last gen that were better than FFXIII, none of them sold as well. It's more of an indictment on gamers than anything.

Square who?

are we the ones to talk with altus 100% absent from the ps3 ?

the answer is that they ARE worried about the state of console rpgs, that's the thing, they have always been.

Square is the new nintendo in terms of random hate but objectively they are still the major player in console/japanese rpgs because they took action to keep themselves from becoming another stale producer in a long line of studios that slowly faded having nothing relevant to offer.

XIV proved that even strong brand names can only get you a handfull of sales.

Of course they are ''the major player'' but thanks to it's legacy, they were great, once, and that is in the past, now they have nothing to show for and they keep going downhill, the only thing that keeps them relevant is the succes they had back in the day and of course the huge amount of money they have... To the point, the only thing SquareEnix should care about is making their most important franchise, Final Fantasy, a referent again is a debt they have with that IP, FF X-2 was 2 steps down from previous FF's and don't make me talk about XIII and XIII-2, the problem is not if they sell or not the problem is that they are damaging the most important console RPG brand in the world, Toriyama thinks XIII-2 didn't sell as well as XIII because Lightning wasn't the protagonist... but he is crazy, he's in love with his own ego and i wouldn't be surprised if he had a NSFW poster of Lightning in his bathroom, how cool you mentioned Nintendo because that's exactly what's damaging SquareEnix, the same thing that costed Nintendo 2 generations in the backseat (sales) and, as things are going now, a good portion of fans that will never come back: arrogance.

They need to realize that they are not perfect and their decisions may not always be right, if they keep insisting in telling people what to like they are doomed to fail.

They CAN change, but they need to wake up.

This is, unfortunately, very true. Square Enix have nothing to worry about, they'll continue ruining their once great franchise with each installment and still manage to make money off of it.

The game will do well but it wont hurt FF. Xenoblade did really well, over 800k in sales for a new ip with limited release in the US. this next one will probably be a million seller at least but not the level FF is at, even with declining sales

Games are fun.

I don't know how a game that doesn't seem to be FF could take FF's "crown."
But no, even if it was like Final Fantasy I doubt it could reign as the best RPG.

isnt monster hunter the best JRPG? in terms of both sales and quality?

No. Pokemon is. For some reason people always act like Pokemon doesn't count as a JRPG, while really it does. Most definitely.

Is Monster Hunter really an RPG? I didn't think it was...

Some could argue quality-wise, but I guess you're right.
