4 doom threads and still counting.

It's a legitimate question. Don't you think they will cut the price? Sony did it pretty soon with the PS3, Nintendo did it with 3DS and so on.

It still qualifies as a doom thread since price cut means the console is doing bad. But to answer your question: by the end of the year.

PS3 is the best selling home console this year and people still expect a price cut soon

Price cut early in it's life.

Nicely put Pezus, I think you bring forth a good question. Nintendo simply cannot afford a price for the Wii U. It's already not selling the hardware at profit and what will that show to it's early adopters and Nintendo fans? I fear it would only hurt its reputation. Especially twice in a row. Furthermore, the sales are not bad per se and the numbers below prove that:

Xbox 360 US Launch (Nov+Dec): 607k
PS3 US Launch (Nov+Dec): 687k
Wii U US Launch (Nov+Dec): 890k

They could be better true. I'm expecting a Nintendo direct soon.

So when we're talking about the Wii U's first february being worse than PS3's, why are we ignoring the fact that the Wii U had about 250K more sales during its first November than the PS3's first November? Compare six weeks vs six weeks, and see how it goes.

Hopefully soon so I can buy one

Problem is, the hardware is not turning a profit as it is, they simply can't afford to cut the price for some time yet. When they become profitable, it will be a poor move to cut the price below the profit margin again and start all over. They need to focus on making their existing product more easily saleable, not hoping that an eventual price cut in the future might help them sell more.

my thoughts exactly. The 3ds was selling at a loss when they dropped the price if I remember correctly. They might have changed that by now but I cant see the HW bringing in much of a profit. They can't pull a Sony

Other than the 3ds which system did Nintendo quickly drop the price for? I honestly don't think they tend to do that.

SNES, N64, GameCube, and DS all got price cuts within the first year from North American launch as I recall.

GameCube was down to $99.99 within about 2 years I believe.

Though none quite as quickly as the 3DS or as dramatically ($80 drop).

Gamecube would have been the only system I would have had the possibility to remember because all the other ones I would have been way to young for. But I basically skipped that generation and don't remember anything from it
