mariage with 12-14 years (and consummation) was pretty much standard for centuries throughout europe even with christianity in place - from our point of view that is pedophilia

Same-sex marriages or "unions" were performed in ancient Rome. Emperors were in same-sex marriages... speaking of emperors, most of the earliest roman emperors were bisexual or homosexual. As for Greece... ok, don't really know that much about it so maybe whatever is said in that video is right. |
Or u could Just look at the history of the most influential person in Greek History and see that the video is Just BS. Alexander the Great, and if u dont know about him .. well He was Gay, pretty much every historian has come to that agreement that he was either a Homosexual or atleast Bisexual, So yeah homosexuality definitely looked down upon in Ancient Greece<---(sarcasm).
And i would have liked to believe the video that was posted (for the sake of historical fact) But none of the Statments made in the video were sourced, so the whole thing could have just been an opinion.

I always though marriages/unions at that age back in classical/ancient times was because Life expectancy was lower than what it is now. |
Yeah... I don't get why people getting caught up on it. It was probably as simple as that. The distinction between childhood and adulthood was just different.

well, yes life expectency was at about ~35 years I guess, so that's a big factor, but ofcourse thats just an average that is brought down by ~40% of the people dieing before they became adults (most at birth-> reaching age of 5)
after that they probably mostly reached their 40-50th birthday
i think it should be allowed. it's the good right of a church to say they don't allow it but marriage outside of religion should be allowed from the government.
i mean, here in germany there is the civil marriage (that's what you need to get the rights/benefits of a couple) and then the marriage in a church (for the people who want that religious stuff). i don't really see the reason why gay people shouldn't get the right for the civil marriage. church is something else, that's should be the decision of the church.

I'm not one for oppression and persecution of innocent people, but you can be glad at whatever you want mate. |
Im glad it brought end to slavery, pedophilia, animal/human sacriface, homosexuality among leaders and generals, paganism and idoltary. Altho, I admit it brough quite the few problems as well, mostly coming from the corrupted leaders
I personally dont care who marries who. It is a personal commitment.
I dont understand why more people dont question why the government is in charge of marriage in the first place.
we should all stick with traditional christian marriages where women are property to be bought, sold and all around treated as property for our sexual enjoyment and to look after our children.

I support it myself, but the only sensible idea I have heard is that marriage is a religious institution, so it should follow religious laws.
In which case, it should have no government recognition, and a government-recognised life partnership should be open to any two (or, hell, more than two) consenting adults.
