Wow, this almost makes G4's review sound intelligible...

buying a console to play a game? how sad is this guy. Leave your wiiu - ipad mini and all the shit and go out, make friends and possibly someone will let you use their wii u to play Mario so you have firends and free games... it's a win win situation... go for it!

Switch!!!

The second article isn't bad, and I agree with some points. A Skype app would be much more useful than WiiU Chat, and DLNA is a must on those countries where VOD isn't available yet. I would also like to see more apps, plus better integration between Wii and Wii U.

I think that it was fairly well written for a troll article. Children and soccer moms aren't mentioned once.

Edit:  He does mention 7 year olds, but not soccer moms.

If Wii U doesn't do well in 2013 and beyond, I could see it being the last "traditional" Nintendo console.

They may move on to a hybrid portable/tablet type of product next as others have mentioned.

like how gamecube didnt do well and how nintendo left the console business because they didnt make any money from it...? oh, wait...

They had a pretty incredible idea to succeed the GameCube though -- the Wiimote. Ideas like that don't come around all the time, which is evidenced by Wii U, they couldn't come up with a new idea as compelling as the Wiimote was for 2006 and are trying to sell the Wii U as a more conventional game platform.

Personally too I think the age of the game console may be coming to an end, beyond the PS4/720, where else can you go? The graphical fidelity will eventually reach a point where most developers simply cannot afford to go higher (even the big Western studios), and I think the 720/PS4 take it there.

So where else? Virtual reality?

but they didnt know it would sell gang busters, now did they? and for all we know they might be working on the new wii right now.

but do we really need better graphics all the time tho? what was so fantastic about wii and the ds was the way they played, not the graphics. thats where we will go after ps720, to find new ways to play games. and better ai oc!

Who says new ways to play neccessarily have to come from Nintendo? There are a lot of rumors that the next XBox will have some kind of projection based/higher end motion sensing technology to it.

A.I. generally benefits from increased horse power too.

There's no rule that says graphically-gimped hardware can be the only one that provides new control/interface experiences.

I don't know who says that, I sure didn't. I said that there's where we're heading when grahpics can't be improved anymore.

You're reading in too much in my last reply; you said:

And I said that new ways to play is the way to go after that - not that it'll be nintendo taking us there. When games gets too expensive to develop it's up to the hardware to make it interesting and exciting to play in new ways, not depending on graphics for that kind of excitment.

As long as Iwata and Miyamoto are in charge, Nintendo will never put their games on other platforms. They believe it will completely destroy their competitiveness and make their brands less desirable. I happen to agree with that philosophy.

We're a very long ways from the management at NCL even vaguely entertaining the idea of bringing their games to other platforms, let alone beginning to develop for other platforms. Years away.

Direct quote from Iwata last summer on Nintendo releasing their games on non-Nintendo devices: "So long as I am President, that shall never happen". It ain't happening, folks.

Look at Animal Crossing and 3DS sales in Japan and tell me Nintendo can't make it with their long-standing business model.  They can, for sure.

If Wii U is a sales dissapointment and cell phones continue to erode the relevance of game handhelds, I don't think it's so far fetched that Iwata will be given the boot at some point.

Under his guidance, Nintendo has largely squandered most of the momenteum they had from the Wii/DS heyday with two very problematic hardware transitions and he seems to be apologizing for something different every 3 months nowadays.

Miyamoto is moving back into an advisor position. I honestly wouldn't mind Nintendo get a president that was more aware and in tune with the Western markets. Under Iwata, Nintendo has become very Japan-centric in their software philosophies, contrasted to Nintendo in the late 1990s.

So I guess you've heard Iwata say Wii U is a sales disappointment? Mind linking that? As far as I can see it's doing really well - except for EU. If it did well in EU it would sell like the Wii did! It's doing better than both of PS360 combined during the same time of availability in a much harder economic climate. How is that bad?

And regarding the handhelds; think of it like a camera. No one buys small digital cameras anymore since the cameras in your phone is almost as good. It's a fact the small cameras has been selling less and less. However, the big ones are selling more and more. Why couldn't this be the case for handhelds? But I doubt the market will be able to sustain two competitors, and we might not see the kind of sales the DS beasted about with...

i could care less who beats who in the next gen. but ppl are going to have fun eating their words when Wii U becomes a huge success. I've owned every home console since SNES and none have had me as excited as my Wii U.

Well that seals the deal, Wii U winning next gen confirmed. Perpride is excited about Wii U!

My daughter got an iOS device over Christmas, which meant I spent many frustrating hours configuring it and getting everything to work. I also got a Wii U in November. In one case I was pleased with the experience with a few reservations (e.g. load times on the Wii U) and in the other I cursed apple and hoped that Steve Jobs was rotting in hell (though I don't believe he is since I don't believe in hell).

I am not opposed to mobile, and not a mac hater, they generally have good hardware and use a UNIX based system... But wanting the whole world to be like apple and iOS. I hope not.

2013 should be an excellent year for gaming, I look forward to many good titles on the Wii U and I think I will add another console this year too. The Steam Box.
