Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Ps3 will FINALLY pass the xbox360 at some point,so what,s the big deal?it,s only 2013

In the end, Jimmy Danger said it right. Xbox has grown as a brand greatly since last gen with install base, 3rd party support, and profitability. The Playstation brand has been on decline to put it lightly. But the Wii is the overall winner.

I personally consider 360 being 2nd or the #1 HD console in the time period where all 3 consoles were the most current and relevant a major victory and milestone. Thats 7 years of beating the former #1 brand in gaming.

PS3 can have all the longevity it wants, and the fans have a right to celebrate any milestone it gets. But if all 3 next gen consoles are out, I personally would have moved on and couldnt care less what happens to the older consoles. No matter how you slice it, the spotlight is taken off when all 3 next consoles release.

So as I said before, to celebrate taking 2nd, after 7 years, after the next gen fully releases, all the while with Wii being #1 and the only winner to be remembered by history, to celebrate 2nd is to celebrate lowering the bar. With the OP, it wouldnt matter a damn bit.

Hahaha, yippy, another thread where sales2099 desperately and in vein tries to claim that when the PS3 overtakes the 360 that some how "it doesn't count" because the arbitrary rules he makes up for when a consoles sales "stop counting" are more important than the actual FACTS of which console sells the most in the real word. How many times has he tried to do this in threads this year? 6, 7, 8 times? *facepalm*

2nd place authority allows me to make these rules. 3rd place fans cant make the rules, as defined by the PS2 forefathers of yestergen.

Then that means your rules won't matter anyways because once PS3 passes the 360 they just change to rules so that the sales are still considered relevant, regardless of what new generation consoles are released.

Ok but then I invoke rule powers when next Xbox gets a head start on PS4. Cycle begins anew :). But until then, Id appreciate if PS3 fans stop with the "pre-victory" party. Its been predicted since 2009.....either have your party or dont

They can party the fact that the PS3 is outselling the 360 year after year if they so want.

They can, but I am referring to the year after prediction that it would outright take 2nd, not slightly outsell 360 every year.

It seems to me fron the posts in here - that most 360 fans could care less - while most PS3 fans think it's a significant milestone.

Me? If either outsell the Wii, which I doubt will happen (at least for the next 3 years at the very soonest) - that's big news. If either get second place, without the winner being displaced - who cares?

The horse that wins the race is the most important - each way bets pay for a place outright - not a different value for second and third There's winners - and placegetters.

The Silver Medal is only important in small countries that never win gold. Although Usain Bolt getting Silver in an event he's previously dominated would probably be more newsworthy than whoever won gold.

The Sony Nation (and their athlete PS3/Usain Bolt) is surely successful and large enough to be going for gold, and seeing anything less as a failure.

If stealing second place - right at the death - is significant, and indeed (as I have read in other threads) cause to celebrate - then the Sony Nation must be smaller and less successful than I thought, as - judging by the posts in here - they'd think it was a pretty, pretty, pretty big deal.

Your point would be valid if sales were indeed like a race. Which they are not. If people adopt your product and it sells, you get market share, make profit and in turn you win.

Your stance on the matter, as concealed as you tried to word it, is no different from those you point a finger at.

My stance on the matter is clearly stated in the second paragraph. It's there - no concealment. Read it again.

And sales - like it or not - are indeed like a race - as you seem to have agreed with in your post  (quoted - If people adopt your product and it sells, you get market share, make profit and in turn you win.).  Which basically means that whoever sells the most wins. Although runners can leave the field/join the field at any time, until it's effectively a one horse race.

PS2 sold many years after it's competition bailed out - but it was winning when they left and remained winner.  It'd won the gold and still kept running. Ditto the SNES (when Sega had gone on to the Saturn -  SNES was leading) - the PS1 (when Sega had gone on to the DC - PS1 was leading). There's only two horses left in this race now (as Nintendo have moved on to the WiiU) - and unless someone displaces it (Wii) for first place overall - any "victory" is hollow. And if when the PSOmni/XboxInfinity launch - if whoever is left at market is still running third - well - it's not a victory at all. Be that Xbox or PS. Like I said - the Wii won. Unless someone outsells that while there's still another competitor on that track (ie. Sony or MS haven't moved to the next gen) - that's the victory.

Maybe MS and Sony fans should shake hands and say - "well we both got our arses handed to us by Nintendo. Good Game. The winner is now in another castle." rather than this "I'm less of a loser than you, or maybe in the next 12 months I will be less of a loser" retarded debate. It seems desperate - from both sides.

As for finger pointing - in my post that you quoted - did I block quote someone and reply directly to points someone made? Or just give an overview of how the general tone of 200+ posts, and general observations of how things appear to look from my perspective?

No. It's not an imaginary race. The market isn't made like this. Only fanboys see it this way: Winning a console generation.
As long as a product sells, and is bringing profit, it is winning. You see things as if consoles were running toward an imaginary and arbitrary finish line. If the other manufacturers don't have a lasting faith in their product and believe they need to remove it from the market once they release a new system, it changes nothing. Fact being that the older product is still being proposed to people, still selling, still generating profit, and in many cases, selling in place of the newer gen systems.

You see it like a "console generation" is the be all end all of a console's life-cycle. The general population doesn't see things this way. "Hardcore gamers", for lack of better words, see things in such a shallow way.

After all 3 consoles come out, the only market left for the older consoles is casuals, kids getting a cheap first console, and the odd core gamer that missed out the entire generation. Also 3rd world gaming markets. These all dont pertain to us, who made our console choices allready.

The general population doesnt frequent gaming forums. Core gamers frequent them.Your using causals as a crutch, your dealing in core gamers, who as you said, see things in a shallow way. Play by our rules because thats where you are.
