Forums - Gaming - The Ps3 will FINALLY pass the xbox360 at some point,so what,s the big deal?it,s only 2013

lot of xbox ppl getting defensive about last place(the inevitable). xbox had and entire year head start, their rival had a monsterous price tag to start out(it was almost like having a 2 year head start to be honest because of the $600 issue) and once the ps3 got a decent competitive price point, has been handing the xbox its behind ever since, its not the end of the world, its video game machines ppl,get over it,its gonna happen, and the ps3 is gonna pass it by millions when its all said and done. and for the op,why wouldnt we talk about it,it was a major hurdle because of the reasons i mentioned price/late start(and btw, always having a higher price too).this is a sales site so we talk about it,not the nba, not politics, not aids, not cartoons, but sales came out a year late/huge price point, always had a higher price point, and will pass it by millions when its done. xbox ppl get very defensive over the last place thing(the inevitable).

I think I've managed to cut out the weird copy-pasted menus whilst leaving the post mostly intact - Kantor

Quite the informative post.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Is it just me or does it seem this topic is attracting alternate accounts?

Yes, not to mention the next person asking why 360 fans are posting its no big deal should be banned as the OP clearly has the word discussion and a question for people to answer.  To me its just trolling, are 360 fans not supposed to speak on any subject now?  These forums can be a joke at times.  If you don't want to have 360 fans post then put in your own thread on the subject stating Sony fans only, problem solved.

People have been saying the same old thing for years now, that the PS3 will make this comeback to 1st. Please leave it alone already. The Wii has won this gen, it's over.  No, PS3 won't even pass the 360 either.  I love my PS3 but no..

Also, I think MS fans don't like this for two reasons. One, it means MS couldn't beat Sony, even with all the horrible mistakes Sony made early on (pricing, 1-1 1/2 years late, and no real SW support for a year or two). And two, it shows just how strong the PS brand is. That they could have so much working against them at the start and still place 2nd and end up selling ~90M. This is only going to help them next gen, especially in EU and Japan. They will also have a console that is relatively the same price as the NeXbox and will be coming out within 6 months of the NeXbox's launch.

You could look at it that Sony would have eventually picked up a large proportion of their old PS2 userbase if given enough time whereas every sale above 30M Microsoft had to earn. So you could say that Microsoft played a significantly better game this generation and if these conditions repeat themselves then Microsoft may be the one to beat next generation.

The thing is brand loyalty is there, but that is really only for a large minority of gamers.  There are regions, like some found in EU and Japan, that stay relatively loyal, but America is always anyones game.  So, for the majority of gamers, each gen begins anew.  And considering they had such a rocky start on the what is deemed the most important points for a console, price and game support, Sony had a lot to prove.  Especially after they became the butt of many a joke, with some even thinking this would be the end of the PS3.

I will give MS credit, though, did great with the hand they were dealt.  They made sure to keep the price gap an issue.  The only time price became almost a non-issue was when the PS3 dropped to $299.  They made sure to have great 3rd party support, at a time when the PS3 was getting weaker ports.  And they also did a great job pushing Kinect for its first 2 holidays, which helped slow, though not reverse, the shrinking gap.

@ Solidsnake08

Of course MS fans will be on those threads, just as they are now.  Claiming it doesn't matter, while they count the days til the 360 passes the Wii in the UK and US.

I garee

MS fans like me congratulating a console for coming in first place in 2 of the 3 biggest single markets whilst the curent gen is still alive is silly.

The PS3 coming 2nd overall after the next xbox and Wii are released is a far bigger deal.

... if you are desparate.

Wait, it still counts for the 360 because the "current gen is still alive?"  Does that go for the Wii, too?  The system that's been declining by HUGE amounts for how long now? At least 2 years.  And the 360 may not reach the Wii in the US til the NeXbox is released.  Will you still celebrate then?  Of course you will.  But you'll come up with some lame excuse to why it is fine to celebrate, while the PS3's milestone is a "so what."

Also, the DS is most likely not going to pass the PS2, so I'm not sure why you brought that up.

It seems to me fron the posts in here - that most 360 fans could care less - while most PS3 fans think it's a significant milestone.

Me? If either outsell the Wii, which I doubt will happen (at least for the next 3 years at the very soonest) - that's big news. If either get second place, without the winner being displaced - who cares?

The horse that wins the race is the most important - each way bets pay for a place outright - not a different value for second and third There's winners - and placegetters.

The Silver Medal is only important in small countries that never win gold. Although Usain Bolt getting Silver in an event he's previously dominated would probably be more newsworthy than whoever won gold.

The Sony Nation (and their athlete PS3/Usain Bolt) is surely successful and large enough to be going for gold, and seeing anything less as a failure.

If stealing second place - right at the death - is significant, and indeed (as I have read in other threads) cause to celebrate - then the Sony Nation must be smaller and less successful than I thought, as - judging by the posts in here - they'd think it was a pretty, pretty, pretty big deal.

Your point would be valid if sales were indeed like a race. Which they are not. If people adopt your product and it sells, you get market share, make profit and in turn you win.

Your stance on the matter, as concealed as you tried to word it, is no different from those you point a finger at.

My stance on the matter is clearly stated in the second paragraph. It's there - no concealment. Read it again.

And sales - like it or not - are indeed like a race - as you seem to have agreed with in your post  (quoted - If people adopt your product and it sells, you get market share, make profit and in turn you win.).  Which basically means that whoever sells the most wins. Although runners can leave the field/join the field at any time, until it's effectively a one horse race.

PS2 sold many years after it's competition bailed out - but it was winning when they left and remained winner.  It'd won the gold and still kept running. Ditto the SNES (when Sega had gone on to the Saturn -  SNES was leading) - the PS1 (when Sega had gone on to the DC - PS1 was leading). There's only two horses left in this race now (as Nintendo have moved on to the WiiU) - and unless someone displaces it (Wii) for first place overall - any "victory" is hollow. And if when the PSOmni/XboxInfinity launch - if whoever is left at market is still running third - well - it's not a victory at all. Be that Xbox or PS. Like I said - the Wii won. Unless someone outsells that while there's still another competitor on that track (ie. Sony or MS haven't moved to the next gen) - that's the victory.

Maybe MS and Sony fans should shake hands and say - "well we both got our arses handed to us by Nintendo. Good Game. The winner is now in another castle." rather than this "I'm less of a loser than you, or maybe in the next 12 months I will be less of a loser" retarded debate. It seems desperate - from both sides.

As for finger pointing - in my post that you quoted - did I block quote someone and reply directly to points someone made? Or just give an overview of how the general tone of 200+ posts, and general observations of how things appear to look from my perspective?

Hahaha, yippy, another thread where sales2099 desperately and in vein tries to claim that when the PS3 overtakes the 360 that some how "it doesn't count" because the arbitrary rules he makes up for when a consoles sales "stop counting" are more important than the actual FACTS of which console sells the most in the real word. How many times has he tried to do this in threads this year? 6, 7, 8 times? *facepalm*

2nd place authority allows me to make these rules. 3rd place fans cant make the rules, as defined by the PS2 forefathers of yestergen.
