because majora's mask is better

I know I'm going to get crucified for this,  but I never played Majora's mask.  I have seen others play it, but I've never played it, myself.  I hear they're doing it for 3DS the same way they did Ocarina, but until I know for sure, Majora's Mask will have to be content not being on my radar.

Also, my favorite not-main-series Legend of Zelda is, by far, Four Swords Adventures.  It's not as intense with the puzzles, and it's linear as hell (something I criticized Skyward Sword for), but man that was one fun game, and if you actually had allies to play with as well as all the equipment to play 2-4 player co op, it was unrivaled.  I had three Gameboy Advances and the appropriate cables, so I was able to fully enjoy it with my brother and a friend.

1 - A Link to the Past
2 - Wind Waker
3 - Twilight Princess
4 - Four Swords Adventures
5 - The Minish Cap
6 - Links Awakening DX
7 - Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages
8 - Skyward Sword*
9 - Ocarina of Time
10 - The Legend of Zelda

I haven't played Majoras mask, only played like 10 minutes of The Adventures of Link, really disliked Phantom Hourglass, and didn't play Spirit Tracks.

* =  (Didn't like it much on my first play of it, but now that I know what to expect I can likely go in with renewed interest, and I think I may be able to enjoy it more.)

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

I used to think I played it too much but I've come to realize I just got tired of hearing people gush about the game or knock newer Zelda's saying they weren't as good.

Everything about the game has been improved upon in Zelda games released after it. Its not even the best Zelda for the console it was released on.

Link to the Past > Majora's Mask > Wind Waker > Twilight Princess > Phantom Hourglass > Ocarina of Time

I think Smeags thread says it all. Even though people on this site say its not in their top five.....its in their top five. Strange! No?

Tell me how many people made a full list... Then tell me how many if those lists had Ocarina in the Top 5.

Then we will know how many people in that thread, have Ocarina in the top 5 :D

Praising OOT is hardly nostalgic, that game took massive leaps in game design back in '98. Of course it has aged but it made such a huge impact, and remembering the game for that has nothing to do with nostalgia.

perhaps, but Pong did the same thing, as did Mario Brothers, yet those don't get remembered nearly as fondly.

Take the original Mario Brothers, for example.  Great game, without it we wouldn't have Nintendo, consoles, platofmers, or gaming as we know it.  It's widely considered to be one of the most important games of all time, but nobody's trying to say it's the best game of all time becuase it's not.  the controls are sluggish, the level design is simplified by comparison, etc.  It's still a great game, but it has aged very poorly.  It IS possible to appreciate the contributions and significance of a game without coddling it or staring at it with rose-tinted glasses.

Ocarina of Time is the same deal.  It's a great game, holds up okay, but it has aged poorly and is important becuase of its contributions to the genre moreso than it is for its unrivaled design and polish.

I am not sure if you are talking about Mario Bros. or Super Mario Bros. if you mean Mario bros. I agree, but super mario bros. has not aged poorly at all. It is still an immensly fun game, almost infinitely replayable. Sure the mechanics/physics are poor compared to SMB3 and SMW, but it's still more fun than almost all platformers that are not Mario, new or old.

46/71 had OoT in their top 50 (65%)
23/71 had OoT in their top 10 (32%)
14/71 had OoT in their top 5 (20%)
9/71 had OoT as their number one game. (13%)

Now older and wiser, I can see not everybody has the same taste as Spurge (and me for that matter). 11 years ago, I would've been banned for blatantly defending OOT... XD

So Spurge, I can't believe you weren't expecting these replies. And I can agree on both sides of perspectives.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I can't get over those stats. That really is extraordinary.

Did any other games break 50% for the top 50 threshold?
