Sometimes it is too early to celebrate your victories ...

WP is increasing its marketshare...that IS a victory for Microsoft. They were never expecting to overtake iOS and Android this quater...lol. WP will have a marketshare of 15%+ by 2015, which im sure Microsoft will be very pleased with.

Its growing so slowly. Nokia is really trying hard, but Samsung and HTC don't seem to be trying at all. Both of those companies seem to only care for their flagship Android devices.

HTC and Samsung are pushing Window Phones (especially HTC...have you seen the 8X?!). They have to pay shitloads to Apple and MS for every Android device they produce due to patent infringements, etc., so im sure they're hoping that their WP's are successful lulz

Meh, MSFT is still expected to grow at 6 or seven percent, which isn't great at all. Seven percent would be just fine for a stodgy old industrial kind of company.  for tech companies in particular, they are growing much slower than average.  They rank in the bottom 20 or 30% for software and tech, in terms of revenue growth for the past 5 years.  Again, and as companies like google and apple that hands down grow faster than Microsoft get bigger, they'll start to be able to use that size to bully msft.

Right now google is around 70 or 75% of microsofts revenue, but is growing a lot faster on a year to year basis.  In a few years, google will overtake msft if the past trends keep on going.  At that point, it will be like somebody trying to fight somebody their own size versus fighting somebody that they are bigger than which is the case as of now.

I'm not sure what you're getting at...

When youre as massive as microsoft has been for the last 15+ years it's difficult to grow at the same rate that much younger companies are. There wasnt much room for MS to grow, but now that they've diversified there is plenty of room opening up.

Dang MBP damage control much?

BS.

Apple is Over twice as big as Microsoft in terms of market cap, but it has been the wall street darling bc of its growth.  It can be done if the company has intelligent leadership.  And the diversity thing isnt a great thing necessarily, bc it throws companies in a million different directions all at once. Microsoft has had the diversity for a while anyway, so that argument can't hold up with me.  I'm glad that you have faith but at least realize that the market isn't greatly positive on Microsoft.

With the release of new products, Windows phone sales spiked and it saw an immediate increase marketshare as measured by quarterly sales; and you will probably see something similar in 2013 when RIM releases their new Blackberry. Growing their sales and increasing their marketshare is not guaranteed and, with the release of new products from their competition, it is plausable that the will see their sales and marketshare decline to the level it was at before their new phones were released.

Until there is a sustained increase in marketshare, it is far too early to call this marketshare increase anything but a blip ...

Google is still blank in desktop OS market. Microsoft can use its  position in desktop OS market to easily muscle Win phone growth..Google doesnt have any advantage of its mobile OS to increase its desktop OS anywhere soon.. So Microsoft will trump Google for many years to come.

And for the record : Google Revenue is increasing but its profit is still 1/3 of Microsoft : Microsft Q3 profit : $6.37 billions Google Q3 profit : $2.18 billions

What makes you think Google wants a desktop operating system?

Beyond that, Microsoft has been releasing Windows based mobile/phone operating systems since 2000; if they could use their desktop marketshare to muscle into the market why haven't they yet?

1 ) Google has released Chrome OS - you dont know that ?

2) I dont know .. they would have their priorities set..Xbox,Bing both of which have matured now as products... ..smartphones have only released in 2007 end.. expect the mustling to start in 2013.

Smartphones started getting released in 1999/2000 with Blackberry phones and multiple devices released by various large manufacturers (in fact, Motorola, Sony and Nokia (IIRC) all released touch-screen smartphones in 2001) ... Microsoft saw the market opportunity, produced their operating systems and paired up with companies for the past 12 years, and still sits with single digit market share.

Microsoft can't muscle their way in because what people want from a desktop OS is dramatically different than they want from a mobile OS.
