Thank you Cyrus_ATX. So we can see that it's still nowhere despite the large percentage improvement.

Mobile devs won't be making things for three platforms with one a fifth the size of the other two, especially because of how fragmented Android already is, and that iOS needs iPads as well.

?

There are more than enough apps on all 3 platforms already.

46 of the 50 most popular iOS and Android apps are on WinPhone 8 already.
Overall, there are 120k apps available on WindowsPhone (Oct 2012). If you really need 15 different fart generators fine, but every regular user should be happy with the selection. And of course, it will grow in the future.

So no, a lot of mobile devs are making things for three platforms.

If you're only worried about having multiple versions of Angry Birds having most of the top 50 apps is fantastic, but most people regularly use apps that are in the top 1,000 or 10,000 apps and they don't just want a version of it they want as good of a version as everyone else has; and that is where the problem with Windows phone is.

Most of the app developers I know focus their development on ios because they're getting the most sales off of those platforms; so features are implemented first on ios and then ported to Android some time later. With such tiny userbases and abysmal software sales, development for Blackberry and Windows devices is usually an after-thought; and many of these products are years behind in features compared to their android version, which are weeks or months behind their ios version.

To use videogame systems as an analogy, would you buy into a videogame system that promised to release 8 of the top 10 games in a year knowing that dramatically inferior ports of 30 of the remaining 40 top 50 games wouldn't be released for 18 months and the other 12 games wouldn't be released at all?

Xbox released a year before and got a huge lead ....now PS3 is the better platform with better titles.

I can say same for iOS..iPhone released before WP 7..but this doesn't mean  than WP8 cant be better..

Windows 8 has been released only recently..we have to wait a couple of quarters to tell how good the product can be... it isn't DOA like you assume.

In future Microsoft can bring better exclusives to WP8 than Apple currently has because WP8 uses the same XNA framework that xbox live title uses...there can be bigger no of ported games from xbox live straight to WP8..

Well to be fair to Apple, the Iphone 5 just released in the 4th quarter, and that's what drives profits for them. In the third quarter, Apple didn't have any major product releases I think.

Hmm, I wonder if the new iphone release had anything to do with Android dropping in marketshare in the US? Lol. I'm sure Android will be right back up there in a quarter or two. As for MS slight uptick in marketshare, I'm sure that has to do with the W8 release, as well. We'll have to see where they sit at in a quarter or two, just like Apple/Android.

A lot of people have played the seasonality card to downplay the iOS surge. The problem is, this is a year over year comparison, so we're comparing the surge of this year's iPhone with the surge of last year's iPhone. Seasonality is already accounted for.

iPhone marketshare most probably will settle down in the US, maybe even back below Android share in the next few quarters, but that doesn't mean it isn't growing and seizing share from Android in the US. It clearly is. And that has implications for how successful Android's "marketshare at any price" land grab has really been.

IOS is 2nd and they make way more money than Google

Precisely. Apple's margins >>>> Android or Winphone margins. From the actual OS, MS and Google don't make much. Profit, unlike Apple, comes from the tie-in to their other products: search, the store, Windows 8, Win8 tablets. And Win8 is selling less than Win7 last year despite being a new OS, so it's already failed at promoting Windows.

Go and look at MS's profit for the relevant division. It's not high.

To me, the comparison of Samsung and Google's mobile profits is more interesting than an Apple/Google/MS comparison. It's interesting that Android has made more money for Google's partner (singular, all the other partners are shivering in the cold) than it has for Google.

Can this thread not be a MS vs Sony war? Sony has nothing to do with Winmobile.

Argh_College, I knew you were just in this to bash Sony.
