Well, Sony isn't forcing more units than the distribution centers want/need, but I believe that they were well stocked back in November when Sony announced their 70m shipped.  Basically, what I was saying is that it makes sense that this last week marked the official "70m+ actually sold to consumers".

Your telling me that retailers have thousands of Ps3's stockpiled in their warehouse for over a month? Doubtful. More likely than not Sony increases shipments closer to Christmas. No reason to ship 2 million units in Oct when you wont sell that many till December

Who the hell said anything about stockpile since October?  Sony made their 70m shipped announcement on Nov 16.  The week ending Nov 17, Vgchartz had the PS3 at 68,471,963.  This last week ending Dec 8, they're now at 70m+.  Ergo, they were well stocked for Black Friday and the following weeks.  What point are you even trying to make?

Before you take that condescending tone maybe you should know what you are talking about.

Ok, I'll give you the date being Nov 4th as opposed to the 16th; I'll concede to that.  However, what does that change as far as my point?  They shipped 70m (sold to shops) on Nov 4th, they've now sold (to consumers) 70m+ as of December 8th...

The shipments were from October first of all. Secondly VGC usually has the PS3 at 1.2 million less than shipped. In October they have 2.2 million less. That means Sony had to of shipped 1 million plus what they sold in october to have 2.2 million less than shipped. Using VGC data that means Sony shipped 2.14 million units in October. In a quarter that sees most of it's sales in the 3rd month which will only see 5 or so million shipped do you really think Sony would ship most of it's units the first month of the quarter? I think it would make more sense to ship something like 1 million in October, 2 Million in November and 2 million in December rather than 2.14 million in october, 2 million in November, .86 million in December

what keeps me bothering is the gap with 360 not being covered yet..it should've done it some while ago...

So, you're saying that Sony actually sold (to consumers) 70m consoles weeks ago (unless there's an abundance of units sitting in distribution centers)?

Guys chill. As i said on this post already, it was made to reflect the actual sales of VGCHARTZ. Not on sony's voice, not on ppl's speculation, not on anything else. Every February i think, we get the last YEARLY official data. Only then we will know the EXACT sales.
For now we take into account only VGchartz:)

No, I'm saying I doubt they shipped 2.14 million in the month of October. Does the concept of sell more ship less make sense to you? Like I said, I think 1/2/2 million makes the most sense. So where does that bring us? Well if I think Sony shipped 1 million in October and they had 70 million at the end of it... that means I think they had 69 million shipped at the end of last quarter.... So let's take a look at Sold according to VGC 66.7 million. Hm... er... what could this possibly mean? VGC undertracked the Ps3 since they started including Ps2 with shipment figures. Now lets look at shipment figures. 2.8 and 3.5 million in the last 2 quarters ps3 + ps2... In order for the shipment figures to add up with VGC the Ps2 would have needed to ship 2.2 million of those 6.3 million in the last two quarters. Yet, the Ps2 shipped .9 million from Oct - Dec last year! That would mean the Ps2 would need to ship more units each quarter than it did during the holidays last year. Include the fact the the ps2 has shipped .6million the following quarter and has been on a decline I can't see ps2 making up 35% of shipments from the last two quarters.

Now we know the Ps3 shipped 63.9 million at the end of last FY. If Sony matched their Jan-March shipments for the Ps2 in March - Sept that would mean the Ps3 shipped... anyone? anyone? SIXTY NINE!!!

This explains how quality is important than quantity.

You sound like a Nintendo gamer.

On Topic: Gratz PS3.  Now pass the 360.

Now, you can say what you want about my analysts but what you wont convince me of is Sony shipping more Ps2's in April-Sept than they did in October-March especially when shipments show declines quarter after quarter last year.
