Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anybody bought a Surface yet?

I think the surface RT is kind of pointless. The PRO version is the only worth buying.

That is the the version that interests me too (or another similar idea, like the Vaio Duo 11), but I can see the appeal of the non-pro, since it is half the price

I dont have that kind of money to be spending on a device, so no..

I don't have a Surface tablet but I do have Winows 8 if that counts for anything... :/

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

No, oh and: http://allthingsd.com/20121205/lack-of-distribution-is-killing-surface/

That's not the only thing that's killing surface but I don't think MS knows WTF they are doing, but then again, it is Steve Ballmer running the show so I'm somehow not surprised.

Cutting orders to 2m by end-2012 from 4m, shipped not sold.

weird..I thought it was high in demand :S

It was selling out at launch. That just means that demand was outstripping supply at that point, it doesn't tell you what demand actually is.

My bet with Selnor is looking pretty safe.

Knowing Selnor, I wouldn't be surprised if he thought it would sell 100m units this Q

Well, you know how bonkers Selnor is about MS products. He was talking trash so I bet him that iPad Mini would sell more units in its first year than Surface (RT and Pro combined) would sell in its first year. Seemed convenient since they launched in the same month.

We might never get good data to settle the bet (MS might not report units at all, analyst reports might lump all iPads or all Win 8 tablets together), but I'm pretty confident the facts are going to fall on my side.

No and I also think the RT is pointless at that price... would it be 399$ it would be totaly different. The Pro version is all I'm waiting for...

I can only report on what I've seen and heard. Here in Toronto Surface was sold out for a month straight. Only in the last week or so are you able to find it consistently in the 2 Microsoft stores without calling ahead and checking for stock.

Early this week Microsoft Stores in Toronto reduced the price of Vivotab RT (the other RT tablet) from 599 to 399 and are throwing a free keyboard as well. Pic from the MS store sale in Toronto below.

I asked them why last night and they said that no one is buying them, everyone wants the Surface...so they have to clear stock. So I don't buy this whole, Surface isn't selling. Check ebay prices and at what cost they are selling when auction is over and you will see that they still sell at cost if not over cost.

Issue is distribution, not demand.
