Why would the vita need to respond when its not competing now? Maybe Iwata is coming to the realization that phones and tablets are effecting 3DS sales in NA.

If they are both side by side in a gaming store (which they are), they are competing.

which retail stoes are vita and 3DS side by side? we can have a picture contest if you want unless you are spewing bullshit.

Um.....like most of them? Handheld sections tend to have both together.

In most retail stores you will seldom find the two products next to each other.  The same way you will not find coke and pepsi and next to each other but rather on the oppsite ends of and isle.  In most modern Best buys, the 3ds and vita are not side by side, neither in walmart  nor gamestop.

Regardless, they are both dedicated gaming handhelds, regardless how they go about it.

They are competition. Its just silly to adopt the "If I cant win then I declare myself not a competitor" mentality. It just screams sore loser.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Bring in the 3DS Lite next year Nintendo.

Gotta sell those Laytons!

While hardware sales are not bad (just meh) software sales in the west are not very good.

Honestly they need more than a price cut, but that's a good start imo given the fact that it has a established a decent library. I can very much see people investing in a new one. That said it does desperately need more games in the west. Hopefully we'll see this in 2013.

This would be a clever (and aggressive) tactic from Nintendo to wipe Sony from the portable gaming market once and for all! Would be very interesting if they did it. They'd have a 100% monopoly

What will nintendo gain from going from 85% to 100% in the dedicated handheld market?  Gaining the Vita's elusive 3rd party games?  It took a year for Nintendo to recover from the $70 price cut, if the $30 dollar cut is true for the regular (which still makes up probably 1/2 of 3DS overall sales) then it comes because of something else upsetting the apple cart, not the Vita.

Nintendo will be doing the right thing.

GBAs in 2002 were 69.99.
Portables should really scale back to being "commodities"

Another price cut seems stupid at this point. Its selling well and already has decent holiday bundling/sales. idk... maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds fishy and un-Nintendo-like.

I'm jealous of how cheap the 3DS is right now compared to launch. I feel stupid for buying stuff so early but I guess I never learn from it. :P

wow if true. 2 massive price cuts in under 2 years is huge. obviously they aren't worried about the vita so nintendo must be scared of smart devices. ..and with good reason. i see soo many kids prefering ipads to 3ds/vitas as of late. my 3 nephews-in-law were quite excited to show off their ipad games this thanksgiving.

With wii u selling at loss, a 3ds price cut would be stupid.
