Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: OG 3DS getting price drop to $139 in 2 weeks; Blue 3DS XL w/ Mario Kart 7 for $199 coming (UPDATE: May just be discount?)

Is this for the forever? Or just the holidays?

If forever and ever, it could be HUGE.

And I approve this, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Why would the vita need to respond when its not competing now? Maybe Iwata is coming to the realization that phones and tablets are effecting 3DS sales in NA.

Soooo.. are they discontinuing the original model?

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I could understand a sale price but an offical price cut?? Maybe Nintendo is still short of their projected numbers.
I haven't bought a game since Kid Icarus and it doesn't seem likely I will get another til Castlevania.

But a price cut is always good for consumers!

Bogus.

Maybe they want to get rid of the regular 3DS models in the west. Personally, I don't think price is the problem although inofficial vita prices are pretty damn close to the XL. Nintendo needs to get their shit together when it comes to western localisations. Fire Emblem taking a fricken year to come over just doesn't fly in this day and age when people know to the minute what happens in Japan.

Edit: Maybe they want to be more competitive against their own, the infamous DS, which is still pulling decent numbers despite having been poisoned, stabbed and shot by Nintendo.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Nintendo needs 3DS to dominate the market in NA like it is in Japan. A further price cut would make it a great option. It would also help people transistion from DS. The DS is dead in Japan but still doing solid sales in America. I think Nintendo wants people to move on. Also, perhaps the manufacturing costs have dropped more, making this possible.

Honestly doesn't sound right. Seems way too quick. I'll be VERY surprised if this is true.

no way this is happening, nintendo have been talking about making the 3DS hardware profitable for a long time now, ever since they did the last price cut. i clearly remember iwata saying that they are focusing on making 3ds hardware profitable and that they will do so in the last quarter this year. why in hell would they cut the price of the thing when they just made it profitable, and when it is selling A LOT?
