You can add Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean and Front Mission to this list.

The first two because it doesn't look like tri-Ace will work with Square-Enix again, and the last one because that aberration called Front Mission Evolved killed it.

After Star Ocean 4, they made the right decision by letting it die.

I loved Star Ocean 4

I thought Star Ocean 4 was one of the worst games I've ever played and certainly the worst I've beaten to completion (all endings and most of the sidequests completed).

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I agree. The game was incredible. Awesome combat system, great graphics, the "earth" arc was impressive and overall a very good game. Yes a couple of characters had squeaky voices, and i dont care much for crafting and the side-quests. But the main quest was enjoyable. The last dungeon was a bit of a pain too after such a good game though.

I had a much worse time with Star Ocean 3. I loved the first disc, and i absolutely hated the second. Worst plot twist ever. I would say thats the game that did the most damage to the series because of the silly plot (it affects every title in the series that has taken place before it).

I do love star ocean though (i just bought first departure for th PSP this year). I dont know why they try to only do one per generation though...

We totally need a new Grandia though. Such a shame... it still has the best combat system of any RPG i have played. Heck i even finished Grandia Xtreme because i just love the combat system. Grandia 3 had an average plot, but the awesome combat system was there and the graphics were nice.

WTB more Grandia (IV). :(

Same here. I love Grandia and Grandia II, probably some of my favourite games of all time (Grandia even enters my Top 50 list), but if it weren't for the superb battle system that the series has, I wouldn't touch neither Grandia III and Xtreme. It's a shame that they blew the series (plot and story wise).

If they ever do a new Grandia, I hope that it follows the footsteps of the first two.

I wouldn't mind Sony doing another Arc the Lad, Legend of Legaia, Wild Arms or Legend of Dragoon
Proper Lufia, Lunar, proper SE tactics game, a non online phantasy star, many games that are shelfbound, kinda sad.

I agree with those except Arc the Lad. The arc the lad games dont make sense without Arc the Lad in them anymore. Its a silly franchise and since they ended the story i think its best laid to rest. On its place, more Legaia would be great, with some improvements to the combat system.

Wild Arms is a great series and deserves to carry on. I dunno why they decided to ditch the cell-shaded graphics from 3. I think they suited the series really well.
Legend of Dragoon, has potencial. It could become a FF like series where they tell a completely different sory every game, with some sort of connection to dragons.
Lufia i still have to play the remake i got for the DS, didnt appeal much to me.
Lunar, definitly needs more games. Proper games like the remake of Lunar 1 for the PSP. There should still be stories worth telling and there were 4 or 5 dragons and we only saw the baby versions of the white and blue ones as i can recall.
Phantasy star i couldnt get into on the Mega drive, but it definitly has a great basis for good stories.
SE tactics game i assume you mean like FFT2? If done in the same veign that the FFT:War of the lions was made i am totally up for it. Serious plot, same great combat system, improved graphics.

To tell you the truth I'd be game if they did it like Valkyria Chronicles.  They even have that same art style (War of the LIons, not the original).

Panzer Dragoon Saga (The best RPG you probably never played)

Last Seen: Panzer Dragoon Saga, also known as Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG, was the third game in the series. Panzer Dragoon Orta, a shooter for the Xbox, was the fourth and last game. There is a Panzer Dragoon themed track in Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed.

Current Status:  An Xbox 360 Kinect game called Crimson Dragon is being made by a former Team Andromeda member and appears to be a spiritual successor to the shooter origins of the series.

Odds: 100:1 - The makers of the series, known as Team Andromeda, have disbanded. Sega has made no announcement of any plans for the series. Even an HD re-release is impossible because the source code for Panzer Dragoon Saga was damaged and lost. There is little hope for any future Panzer Dragoon games

If you like, play: Anything with dragons.

Shining Force 3 on the sega saturn was a brilliant RPG, i was gutted we never got the other 2 parts to the story.
I'd love to see a complete remake of those games because the battle effects on the magic spells were crazzee!!! imagine what they could make them look like with todays conso

I also agree with a comment further up about Star ocean 4 being a good game, I really enjoyed that RPG and all its characters! it was a good story and adventure to go through.

The best rpgs are on PS1 and PS2 consoles, Shadow Hearts and Xenosaga anyone?

Ah yes, loved them both.

I bought an American PS2 just to be able to play Xenosaga 1 and 3. Very strange localizations going on over there...

I don't mind any of the mentioned franchises coming back to life, with not too much change hopefully. Star Ocean, Lunar, Arc the Lad, Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon. Think i can go on, boy do i miss the days of psx and ps2.

Was part 2 of Shining Force 3 japan only or never released?  (Stuff like that happens so I'm a bit curious).
