Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can the ‘poor’ performance of the Vita kill third party support for Sony’s PS4?

No, not even in Japan.

Japanese developers will try to find success in the West developing games for both Sony and MS consoles.

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

No, because there's no correlation between third party support for home consoles and handhelds. Additionally, next gen development will be expensive, so third parties will go multiplatform by default. Multiplatform as in Nextbox and PS4, because the Wii U is filthy.

You are most certainly right about next gen development games being expensive, and certainly alot of publishers will go multiplat. However, wouldn't a publisher who has found success on the handheld market be more willing to support its console counterpart? Ex: Monster Hunder 3DS  + Wii U or Dragon Quest X Wii + 3DS remakes? Or maybe it's just a coincidence I'm not sure :(

Vita doesn't majorly affect home console developers, case closed.

I hate when people say Vita's price is problem..It isnt. People are willing to spend anything as long as the value matches or xxceeds the asking price. Look the Apple devices. Vita has lots of problem being a very very small target audience. Removing kids from the equation was a big mistake. No, PS4 will not suffer. Alot of developers are wedging there bets on PS4/360. They cant survive not supporing PS4 and Wii U

The thing is most people don't think the Vita's asking price matches its value when compared to other devices in that price range like iPods / iPhones.  Therefore, the Vita's price IS a problem.

Sony should have done what Nintendo has been doing with their handhelds for the past 2 decades...simply release incremental upgrades to their exising PSP platform.  Instead they made the same exact mistake they made 6 years ago with the PS3... trying to push an expensive, bleeding edge piece of hardware onto the mass market that most consumers either aren't interested in or think it's too pricey / not enough value to justify a purchase.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

They will bring you trends from the past to try to prove that there is no correlation, but you are giving examples of today that show it exists (Mon Hun, DQ). Just in case, here is my defense to support your POV -> http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4890724

The PS4 will have 100's of third parties working on it; there aren't that many western third party studios working on handhelds. Nintendo does well to create IPs for their handhelds by the grace of their own studios, Sony does that seldom.

We are saying the same thing just backwards. Result is still the same.

I don't think disappointing sales and lack of interest in Vita will hurt the next Playstation very much, but it could end up strengthening the relationships between Nintendo and portable software developers, making the Nintendo portfolio deeper and more diverse. I guess you could argue that would indirectly damage the PS4, but I doubt it will do too much damage. Rather Sony should concern itself over how much horsepower is going into its next home console, and how to make it more convenient for developers.

Vita does not equal the ps4 ffs.

Sony has never been good at handheld consoles, in my opinion they should stop producing them and focuses only on home consoles.

PS4 will be as good as 720 regarding third party support.

they had 2 and the first one was a success (although not an overwhelming one) ..
