crazy's problem is that he has a viewpoint (ps3 will do well) and searches out data that can support it

the better method is to look at the data and draw conclusions from it

looking at all the data out there wouldn't lead someone to conclude that ps3 is gonna pwn

It's called propaganda. To see propaganda in action, tune in to FOX News.

PS3 is not a very good comparison to PS2 at all!!!!!! It won't reach PS2's success. PS2 got good press and great sales. The way your info is layed out, your making it look like PS3 will beat PS2. It doesn't compare saleswise.

It would've been more interesting to compare Wii to PS2!!!!! (Now that is a fight!)

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

Sadly, a lot of folks don't agree with you. They think the PS3 will duplicate the PS2's success. Crazzy doesn't see that it won't happen, but it's best if everyone just smiles, nods in agreement.

Nintendo will sell more than PS2 on its second year. PS3 will sell like GC did in its second year.

What are you looking at, nerd?

While the PS3 will no doubt sell better this year than last year, it won't come close to the PS2 in 2001. Why?
1. Much higher price: Many people do not believe that it is worth the extra money.
2. Games have less impact: GTA and DMC are multiplatform, with more of those sales probably going to 360 due to the much larger American userbase. Final Fantasy will not come out this year, sales of GT and MGS have declined in the last few releases.
3. The PS3 has much stronger competitors than the PS2 did. Wii is currently soundly crushing the PS3 and 360. 360 is king of America, and while PS3 is starting to close the gap in Europe, it will still be awhile until it is enough to make up for poor American and Japanese sales.
4. Such a turnaround is unprecedented: Going back in the last 20 years, a console this far behind has never rebounded and made it to first.
8-bit: Sega Master System never stood a chance
16-Bit: The SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive were close for most of their lifespan, so while SNES took awhile to beat Genesis/Mega Drive, it was nowhere near as far behind as the PS3
32/64-bit: The Saturn was a failure, PS1 dominated the whole era, N64 had nowhere near the sucess.
Last Gen: PS2 was always dominant, with Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube being just a footnote in video game history.
Why should this generation be any different?

Just one thing, CrazzyMan : please stop putting a =) after each post. It's REALLY annoying!

First of all ps2 came out in 2000 so 2001 was its second year while ps3 came out in 2006 so 2008 is the third year. Ps2 sales for its third year almost seem unreachable by ps3...ever.

Reguardless the reason Sony won with ps2 and ps1 is because of third party support.  Saturn and N64 never got it and GC, XBOX got a fraction of what the ps2 got. PS3 is on the other side of the fence now with 3rd party support.

Also, rarely does the most powerful console win. Master system spanks NES when it comes to specs, PS1 was not as powerful as the saturn or n64, PS2 was the weakest link last gen. Snes is the only one I can think of and the only reason it won is because sega didn't know what it was doing with the whole 32x, sega cd, saturn fiasco.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
