Can someone please tell me why this user got moderated for using the term " Micro$oft", when many users use that term and the term " M$" just fine?? :S

I've seen others banned for M$ before. It probably depends on the context of the post, as if the rest of the post is pretty trollish or if the post was mostly fine other than the M$. No clue what the post was though, without that it's hard to make any deductions.

Yeah I've seen about two or three users banned for M$ and Micro$oft as well. Then there's bans for DelayStation, X180 and others. All fall under the same umbrella.

Well then report them rather than asking why it wasn't moderated. We can't read every single post there is after all!

Why is it flaming Microsoft to say M$ though?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I guess its a matter of severity.

M$ is derived from a debate long ago (now) centred on the false notion that Microsoft is somehow alone in throwing money at their problems to solve them - particularly in relation to gaming. So it is flaming in that sense.

On the other hand, its about as low-level as flaming gets. You'd probably only take it into account if other flaming or trolling was immediately present from the user.

I feel like the mods are way to soft and it is annoying because people are getting banned and banned over and over again and are allowed to come back...Those people are the kind of members who make communities look bad..

is this because vgchartz would lose many members and would be very slow/and small (community wise)?

It's not the mods that are soft, it's the loopholes in the website coding that allow people to keep coming back. For example, people can keep creating accounts with the same email address.

The mods themselves are actually pretty good at what they do, which is why this is a much better community than some other websites. There are still the annoying f*nboys, but those exist everywhere, and at least they can't be blatantly disrespectful here.

I have no problem with the loopholes.... I have problems with the member who are +20 times banned and are still active with their account on this site... Not going to name those people...     The ones who come back with a different account get swiftly banned so that is fine for me...

So... You are saying we should just ban members like carl, rolstoppable, kirby, spurgeonryan, etc.?

I think carl is a good example of why they dont.  People can change, Carl had a lot of problems with mkderation for like a 2 year stretch, but he calmed down and now he is a mod...

It all depends on the person, I am not naming people but it is very clear that we see people return and return and return from a ban and always get banned again for behaving like trolls.

I just think moderating people for using M$ when talking about Microsoft is walking a deadly tightrope over the canyon of "taking things way too seriously", when Microsoft as a company has had M$ used for them for so many years because of the money the company makes and the monopoly they have on the market.

It simply looks like moderating for the sake of moderating.

If we are to start moderating things like "M$", then why the hell arent we moderating people for talking shit about say, Square Enix? EA? Activision? Ubisoft?

Agreed. It would have to go hand in hand with some other serious offense.

Otherwise on EA alone we'd ban half the forum.
