Gaikai, the cloud gaming service, made a bold prediction about the next generation of console gaming. That one of the big three, Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony, will not be releasing a console in the next generation. "Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3," said Nanea Reeves, chief product officer for Gaikai.

Sony, the brains behind the PlayStation 3 and the recent PS Vita, will supposedly announce a cloud gaming deal during the Sony press conference on June 4. The deal will allow either Gaikai or OnLive games to be streamed on PlayStation hardware.
The rumor stems from an E3 preview piece which makes reference to a "partnership deal between PlayStation and a leading cloud gaming service," but declines to go into any further detail. However Ross McGrath, SCEE PlayStation Plus Content Manager, hinted earlier this week that the service may require PlayStation Plus.
"If you don't have a PS+ subscription, now is the time to get one. For real. Just get 3 months if you aren't sure. Trust me," McGrath tweeted.

I personally hope Sony don't go this route. I like my physical copies and not everyone has a fast, unlimited internet connection. But it seems suspicious that first Gaikai says (boldly and confidently) that one of the big three manufacturers won't have a next gen per se and then very strong rumours appear that Sony is partnering with a cloud gaming service. Put two and two together and...
(edit: Also, the Sony conference at E3 is called 'The Future of Gameplay and Innovation', could this future be referring to cloud gaming?).
