Forums - Sony - Report: GameStop discontinuing PSP games at smallest stores

Joystiq

GameStop is going to stop selling PSP titles at the smallest 25 percent of stores, Kotaku reports. A GameStop representative called this move a "consolidation" and used phrases such as "maximize the merchandising space" to justify the dropped titles, Kotaku says.

GameStop will continue to sell PSP titles at its larger stores and online -- where it's also selling the PlayStation Vita. Just saying.

No surprise really. PSP doesn't sell well and doesn't shift software well in NA.

My local GS is getting rid of PSP games, but still has GameCube titles.

Food for thought.

I could be wrong but wasn't the PSP also meant to have a 10 year life? It's only at the start of it's seventh and is already beginning to disappear. First party support seems to be entirely gone with only 4 titles the entirety of last year and I don't think any planned for this year.

Although I think everyone always knew the whole 10 year life thing was nonsense. It is and always will be a decision the market makes, not a company.

10 year life in EU and NA? Verging on no chance. In Japan? Ehhh not likely. It will probably still be being sold but I doubt Sony themselves will still be making and publishing games.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Understandable.  PSP is dead in NA and Europe.  They need space for that Wii U amazingness.

Gamestop as a whole has abandoned Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 games. They no longer buy them, but they still sell the ones they have. I'm assuming that's what is going to happen here.

Actually its the 8th year on the market, and believe me on a ww basis the PSP will easily have a 10 year lifecycle The thing is that the Vita killed the PSP in the US while its still doing some decent numbers in EMEA and Japan.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

10 year plan for PSP. No chance in eu or na. But 10 year life worked for PS2 and more than likely will for the PS3.

PSP has been dead for awhile. Good move Sony/GameStop.

The PSP is pretty much dead in the US so good move in my opinion.
