Those are some depressing Vita numbers. Also Wii's and DS's days are counted.

not really. no major software, then hardware dosn't move.

I dont see how that stops it being depressing numbers?

That may be the cause, but they are still depressingly low.

The numbers would be depressing if the Vita DID receive most of it's major software only to still meet mediocre sales. If this were true, there would be very little hope for the system to live. At that point, one could reach the conclusion that the Vita is cursed to have low sales forever. That's depressing.

However, since most of the major software hasn't released, there is still some hope that the numbers will increase at some point in time. At least in this scenario, there is the possibility that the system will see decent sales if/when it becomes flooded with major titles.

You sound depressed. xD

Nah, I still have hope. A Playstation fan always has hope. Sometimes, we may have "no games" but we always have hope (Espescially in the early PS3 days).

True that :')

YOY

PS3 DOWN 32k or DOWN 12.8%
360 DOWN 13.5k or DOWN 7%
Wii DOWN 98k or DOWN 41%

ouch

its gonna get much worse soon.

Reminds me of early 2011 where industry was doomed and then Nintendo posted graphs which showed X360/PS3 at similar to 2010 levels :D

It's always slightly boring when the numbers start to return to normal after the excitement of the holidays.

I'm wondering though as a console manufacturer which would be preferable. Your main sales focused mostly in one territory, or spread out more evenly over all three? As is the case with the 360 and PS3.

An advantage of having a bigger US install base and higher US sales is obviously great for software sales, online sales and it's probably easier to develop and give direction to exclusive games, catering more to a single market. However is there less stability as a result? (Especially long term.)

Also which is more preferable, higher weekly sales throughout the year then lower sales during the holidays, or vice versa?

(what i thought when i saw this post) what!

sadly i'm missing the point. i must be depressed by something else not to see what you're talking about. yea i'm sure the numbers are depressing to some, but they know why so i don't see the shock value.

I'd consider the PSP to be the chock value.

lol. they are doing about the same in same region right, only like a 5k diff. lol! PSP the little engine that could lol.

a new user(thats been lurking)i see. i'm starting to like you already lol.

What do you mean with"only 5k"? And I'm not only talking about this very week, I'm talking about the launch altogether. What language is that you are using by the way?

Tbh I see all home consoles fall roughly Q1 2012 YOY.

20 to 40 % down across the months for all 3 home consoles.

Why would PS3 be so down after price cut few months ago ?

Market saturation imho. 210 Mil home consoles have been sold this gen. I don't expect the market to gobble them up this year tbh (w/ wo/ recent/impending price cuts). And then continued financial stress globally, but that's always an uncertainty, I hold more to the first factor.

I also doubt the robustness of the unusual always up curve I see with the Xbox, I don't expect it to continue (e.g. more weight towards general market fatigue).

Also, much of what would've been bought this year was bought during holiday 2011 thanks to bundles/deals. 2011 holiday performance was much higher than expected traditionally at this point in a generation. That sales buffer can considerably affect this year's performance accross the board.

I see Wii going sub 100k in just a few weeks

Looks like the 360 and PS3 will probably fall below 100k rather soon as well.

Eventually, but I don't think soon. There are many games coming out for them in the coming months. 360 might go under 100k before summer but I don't think PS3 will. Having said that, I think all of them will go sub 100k during the summer :(. Will be depressing!

I think both will (360 before PS3) go under 100k before ME3 and Max Payne 3 come out for at least a couple of weeks.

PS3 dropped by 200k+ this week??

or overtracked the previous week/s?  Nothing massive came out new before, seems odd.

Hmm last weeks numbers look the same as they did, so no major adjustments...weird. 360 dropped by ~73k, Wii by 145k and PS3 202k?

Japan hurt ps3 a lot this week because no more holiday. For whatever reason europe had a ridiculously small drop last week and this week it had its big drop while the United States had its big drop last week and a small drop this week. Percent drops are similar for all systems in each region. 50% in Europe. 70+% in japan. 13-25% in United States. The small drop in the United States was most beneficial to the 360 hence why it caught up rather quickly.

Anyway sales will be awful except for small weekly bumps when big releases come out it seems. It will be interesting to see if microsoft cuts 360 prices soon or waits to cut them around the same time as the wii u launch.

Ouch.
Also, 3DS is doing not-so-hot for a 8th gen handheld.
It might drop badly pretty soon.
