Should we ban people from smoking?

Yes. There is just no need for it, it's only the addiction that keeps people smoking.

Why should it be banned? I don't smoke, but I also don't think it should be banned. Just don't allow it in public buildings (which is the law in Ontario and probably most places by now).

My only caveat, is that smokers shouldn't have their health care subsidized at all by the government.

Being fat is already a punishment in itself.

If people want to kill themselves let them. I don't want to pay money for fat camp.

Rather than spending money to force things into people, they should spend money on nutrition education for childrens, and young mothers and dad. Kids should already get used to eat fruits, vegtables and, most importantly get used eat balanced meals. Also sports education is important, but an healty diet is primary.Even many people who aren't fat, have some health probles caused by a bad diet.

Exactly this.

At least someone is trying to do something about it

Forcing overweight people into fat camps is nonsense. It will be better to spend that money on making healthy food more affordable and putting higher taxes on unlhealthy food. If you haven't noticed eating healthy is a more expensive then eating processed crap.

Start with taxing the crap out products with high fructose corn syrup and trans fats.

Yes, but only if we also force all who are deemed abnormal to undergo normalizing treatment. If we aren't going to force the short to be surgically stretched, or the gay to go straight or the skinny to go to skinny camp then I say it's not fair and the fatties can stay fat.

Seriously though, people are fat for many reasons. They are free to eat and do as they like. If they pay into a health insurance company than they should get equal care. Like smokers and heavy drinkers the fat may have to pay more due to their lifestyle choices, but it's their right to eat, drink and smoke what they want. I don't want to live in a country that tells people they have to be "normal".

Instead we as a society should encourage healthy lifestyle through education. Schools should offer healthy but tasty meals to get kids to enjoy eating healthy. P.E. should be mandatory and well funded so kids learn to have fun outside. Health class should also be mandatory so all kids learn how the body works and why inactivity and bad diets lead to obesity and diabetes.

Just because you decided to get healthy and lose wait, (congrats, good job by the way), it doesn't mean you have the right to force anyone to live your lifestyle choices. This past year I decided to take my health seriously too. I've lost over 60 pounds by exercising and eating healthy. For me it's about health, not my appearance so I changed my lifestyle instead of going on a diet. But I would never tell a fat friend to drop the doughnut and pick up an apple. My weight loss has encouraged friends and family to get healthy and they've asked for advice so I happily gave it to them.

Educate, don't dictate.

Well if bars can be reprimanded for giving out drinks to someone whose had too much the same should be said to buffets and fast food places. If the person has already eaten over the recommended calorie intake for the day they should stop them from receiving any more for that day.

But only if the person is fat, skinny people like me should be able to eat how much we want!

No, the idea is completely ridiculous, and I can't believe many of you are for it. I live in a free country damnit. Also, what is a fat camp going to anyways? Does rehab guarantee sobriety from addiction. No.

Also, anyone who thinks smoking cigarettes should be outlawed needs to have their head examined. Sure, outlaw smoking inside, but outlawing it completely makes no sense. The jobs that would be lost and the taxes the government would lose would be ridiculous.

Making cigarettes illegal, but legalizing Marijuana makes no sense either, as that's a counter point to the original fat camp argument in the first place. Marijuana makes people hungry!!

I prefer to live in a country where free choice is applauded, as opposed to some place where ridiculous laws are set into place just cause you don't like something.

I'm honestly baffled at some of these statements.

Only if we can force gays into gay camp.

Wait... nevermind, that'd be paradise on Earth for them.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

People should be free to live how they choose to. If someone chooses to be 400 lbs and do nothing about it, that's their choice.

No worse than the government giving my money to them to help them continue being fat. I don't care if people are fat and want to stay that way. That's totally fine. It's their choice. But when they're staying fat and I'm paying for it, I have a problem with that. Don't make me pay for it, and I won't make you stop being fat. Then you can be fat all you want, and do it on your own dime. That's my problem here. I can take care of myself far better than the government ever could, and everyone else could too if the government wasn't forcing it's way into every aspect of everyone's lives. I want the government to stop trying to baby everyone, because they suck at it and they have ended up making things less fair than they otherwise would have been.

What people need to understand is that with freedom comes responsibility. So if you want to be fat, more power to you. But if you expect me to pay for it, I'm gonna tell you that you can't be fat anymore, because it's my goddamn money.
