Forums - Movies & TV - Let's watch the Bond movies together

That's right!  In the near future I will start doing reviews on every James Bond movie ever made (something about once a week).  I know that this will be a lot of work, and I have been putting this idea of mine off for quite some time, but it has to be done.  Why?  It will be a labor of love for me and also, someone has to make threads in Movies Discussion besides for spurgeonryan.

Anyone that would like to watch them in order so they can follow along is welcome (and encouraged) to do so.  The first movie, the 1954 version of Casino Royale can be found as an extra on the 1967 version of Casino Royale DVD.  It is by far the most difficult to find.

Here is the list of all of the movies that I'll be reviewing in order (22 are official films made by EON and 3 are unofficial):

Casino Royale (television movie) - 1954 Starring Barry Nelson (unofficial)

Dr. No - 1962 Starring Sean Connery

From Russia With Love - 1963 Starring Sean Connery

Goldfinger - 1964 Starring Sean Connery

Thunderball - 1965 Starring Sean Connery

Casino Royale - 1967 Starring David Niven (unofficial)

You Only Live Twice - 1967 Starring Sean Connery

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 1969 Starring George Lazenby

Diamonds Are Forever - 1971 Starring Sean Connery

Live And Let Die - 1973 Starring Roger Moore

The Man With The Golden Gun - 1974 Starring Roger Moore

The Spy Who Loved Me - 1977 Starring Roger Moore

Moonraker - 1979 Starring Roger Moore

For Your Eyes Only - 1981 Starring Roger Moore

Octopussy - 1983 Starring Roger Moore

Never Say Never Again - 1983 Starring Sean Connery (unofficial)

A View To A Kill - 1985 Starring Roger Moore

The Living Daylights - 1987 Starring Timothy Dalton

Licence To Kill - 1989 Starring Timothy Dalton

GoldenEye - 1995 Starring Pierce Brosnan

Tomorrow Never Dies - 1997 Starring Pierce Brosnan

The World Is Not Enough - 1999 Starring Pierce Brosnan

Die Another Day - 2002 Starring Pierce Brosnan

Casino Royale - 2006 Starring Daniel Craig

Quantum Of Solace - 2008 Starring Daniel Craig

I have noticed that over the years that some of the movies have gotten better or worse for me upon repeated viewings; so I plan on watching each of them in order before authoring each review in order to not only have them fresh in my mind, but to remove any former bias.

When I am critcizing the films, keep in mind that I love all of the Bond movies.  Just some more than others so if it seems like I am coming across as being harsh to your personal favorite, don't pay much mind to it.  My ratings will be 1 to 5.  The will be as follows:

5 - Great for a Bond movie

4 - Above average for a Bond movie

3 - Average for a Bond movie

2 - Below average for a Bond movie

1 - Still better than any of that Jason Bourne stuff

Before this thread ends I would like to know how you guys would prefer that I write these reviews.  Would you prefer that I keep things spoiler free, or that I include parts of the plot while critiquing?  Would you like me to compare them to the books, as I have read all of Fleming's novels?  Should I include thoughts about how my opinions of some of the movies have changed over the years?  Any suggestions would be welcome.

Also, I understand that my 1954 Casino Royale review could get little to no responses, but someone please swing by to give me constructive criticsm or to make a smart ass comment about how Ian Fleming should have never sold the rights to his book for $1,000.  Thanks.

Any other questions or comments?  Feel free.

James Bond will return in Casino Royale

Edit:  I have decided that these theads will be up somewhere between late Sunday night and early Monday morning CST in America.  This means that they will be up on Monday if you reside in Europe.  Casino Royale (1954 version)  will be up next Monday.

Second edit:  Casino Royale (1954 version) is now up on the second page of this thread!!!

Wow! It looks like my series might not do well at all.

This has the New Charlies Angels written all over it.

I'll try to get responses by changing the title.

I'd be up for this. When does it officially start and will they be in chronological order?

Well... I plan on writing the first review up within a week ( I don't want to hold myself to an official day because my hours are all over the place).

Yes, the plan is to watch them all in order (one a week or so).

Well.. I would watch them, but...

I really don't like most of the old bond movies, in fact...
I don't like any bond movies except for the 3 with Pierce.

But Pierce was in four of them.  :p

Come on...  give the old ones a try again.  Connery is the best.

Very well. I'll grab some of the old tapes/dvd's again sometime soon,

maybe I didn't like them very much before because I was way younger when I watched all those movies, and back then I was really only interested in movies like Terminator. Maybe i'll like them better now. :)

Could be interesting to read your review but I don't think I could follow you but if this gets going soon enough I'll be able to post my thoughts on Goldfinger since I watched it not too long ago.

Signature goes here!

1 - Still better than any of that Jason Bourne stuff

Oh come on Jason Bourne is awesome stuff

Anyways yea I'll follow its just 1 movie per week right. However just to let you guys know I'm kinda one of the new generations of James Bond follower, so if you disagree with some of my opinion. Bring it on.

I'm very up for this, sadly I don't know if I can find the recordings on the Sky box or the original tapes. Luckily, there are other ways, I could even get some of them on DVD or Blu-ray too.

For your reviews, I don't think you should include the novels, I don't think many people know much about them or have read them, if you bring up a book in the middle of the review it'll confuse me for sure. You should mainly compare the Bond movie you are reviewing to other Bond movie's from the same actor. As for including spoilers, I think you should, don't go through the entire plot with a fine tooth comb, but you should comment on certain parts of the plot.

You should review the movie's the way you want to really, whatever you are comfortable with.
