Unofficial estimates are at $163M for the weekend ... Won't even beat Deathly Hallows 2.

The Deathly Hallows Part 2 only stayed at the top spot for 7 days it got knocked down to the second spot by Captain America: The First Avenger its second weekend.  Unless The Watch ends up being as good or better then Ted, The Dark Knight Rises will be at the number one spot for at least two weeks.  Their is really nothing groundbreaking coming out in August and September The Dark Knight Rises should have great legs and still have a change making over $600 million dollars domestically.   A lot of people doubted that The Hunger Games would make over $400 million dollars domstically and it surpassed that with no problem, as a matter of fact it will probably add another $5 million to its total since it still has its discount theater run ahead of it.

Dark Knight Rises unoffical estimates are around 170-198 million and Avengers unoffical estimates were only around 170 million. Box Office mojo which is the most accurate for predictions predicted around 214 million in NA. It should be around that number.

That was before the shooting and 214m was really their most positive prediction. Everything had to click for the movie to make that amount.

Shooting = more publicity + sympathy + highest rated film on IMDB + positive reviews + rotten tomatoes being crushed casue of fans + a million more reasons should get it over 210 million in the U.S.A. weekend. Dark Knight Rises should crush the Avengers. The Theatre I went to it was never this packed before (even for the Avengers or Hunger Games) despite their being a show every 20 min.

I don't think the shooting will have a positive effect...In fact, some stations (like NBC) even pulled adverts of TDKR because of it. Try to manage your expectations

Alright we'll see on monday then.

Avengers last unofficial estimates for the weekend were around $200m not $170m!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

There is no way TDKR will beat The Avengers.

Hollywoodreporter cite " insiders with access to theater grosses" and claim 165 to 170 million for the weekend. I'm going on a limb and even say that even without the shootings, this movie would still not have beaten the Avengers.

With a $30.6M midnight gross, TDKR was originally headed for a $90M+ OD. That would have been $10M ahead of The Avengers. The chances of beating it for the whole weekend would have been realistic. But the shootings stopped the movie to even get close to that projection.

Soooo... TDKR did not live up to what we hoped?

It's too early to say anything on that matter. This weekend has been heavily affected by the theater shootings.I just hope that it won't affect it in the long-run as well.
