It has been over 5 months since I deleted my Facebook account and I couldn't be happier.  With all the locations tracking, privacy debacle (they used to reset your privacy settings after updates), etc I am glad I no longer belong to the Facebook community.  However, the main reason why Facebook has turned to crap is because they let everyone join.

Lets go back to when Facebook first started.  Only college students that had email addresses ending in .edu could sign up to Facebook.  This made it kind of like a college hub.  Then they let the crappy high school students in....  As if spreading rumors around high school didn't happen enough before Facebook.  Then they let everyone in..  I am sorry but when half my family is trying to add me as friends that is where I draw the line.  If a family member wants to know something about me they can just call.

Basically once they let everyone join I believe Facebook fell apart and turned to shit.  They should have kept it as college students only but I suppose the advertising dollars are just too tempting.

I just use it as an informal email system. I don't really care how cool it is.

I just hide some statuses from my family. Some try to add me like my siblings, and I'm like NO NO. I live with you, and I sure as don't want to share my cyber world with you lol

Even so Facebook has helped in case I forget details for homework, etc
I also help friends with their homework via chat.

Maybe my title was misleading.  I believe the influx of allowing any person to join made the community worse.  Now you have kids, parents, grandparents, etc.  A college student that has family members as friends now has to worry about what pictures are posted, etc.  Now that they have face recognition or whatever they are working on, a photo of you could be taken of you that you aren't aware and posted.  Mom, grandma, the whole family sees you doing a keg stand.   When it used to be just for college students you pretty much could care less if you had pics posted of you drunk, smoking a joint, etc...  Companies, family members, police departments, etc can "check" up on people.   Having it pure college students would make it that the users don't have to worry about most things shared.

I rarely use it anymore cause this girl kept "liking" everything I did.. then she started tagging me in photos while I wasn't even in the photo... It was really scary cause friends of her were thinking that I was her boyfriend and they tried adding me as their friend.. I got scared for my real gf cause this crazy girl could harm her.. so I decided to use my facebook much less..

I've heard a few stories from co workers of getting into trouble from Facebook (girlfriend/boyfriend seeing comments, etc).  There are plenty of obsessive people out there and I am sure plenty of relationships have been ruined just because of Facebook.

Pretty much this, and maybe to talk to people I normally wouldn't talk to else where.

Doesn't really matter to me. Even though I'm on it nonstop, I just use it as an easy chat and for the occasional joke with friends. If they want to sell my information, or do anything else like that, I could really care less. Not like that information can't be found elsewhere. Especially in regards to the pot smoking and drinking...if you don't want somebody to see that you are doing this, don't do it

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Erm, you know you can choose who gets to be on your friends' list and who doesn't...

so Why does it matter if they let everyone make and account?

I personally think Facebook is GREAT. I subscribe to the official pages of my fav artists, news channels, educational pages, etc and get the latest of everything.

I am also part of many groups (private ones), I discuss and share lots of info with my colleagues in uni.

So far I loved every facebook update except for the fugly photo viewer.

So yeah , it used to be cool and now it's even cooler.
