Hardware supporting the possibility of outputting at a resolution is quite a bit different from the console actually outputting at a resolution.
Bullshit, mainly because that would incredibly cost ineffective for all the parties involved. Nintendo want to attract publishers to their console, not scare them away.
Also, did you even see a mainstream PC that outputs at this res? Neither did I.

There is ONE thing people have forgotten. Toshiba working on glassless 3D tv.. If we want to see 1920x1080 in 3D the tv will need to be 3840x2160.
Consideinrg toshiba reckon it willhave a tv ready in1-2years time.
Therefor ust MAYBE future proofing it to handleglassless 3D????

While that TV may hit the market in a couple years, 3DTV will be in less than 50% of people's homes until 2020 or 2025 ... Personally, when Nintendo is considering releasing their follow up console (2017 to 2019) I wouldn't be surprised if less than 10% of households had adopted 3DTV.

If it uses a parralax barrier screen like the 3DS, the resolution would need to be 3840 x 1080.
But if uses different techniques, it won't need the ultra wide resolution.
