Forums - Sony Discussion - The unOfficial 'I don't care Sony was hacked' thread

People are saying 20 billion, because each case of identity theft like what happens in having their paswords and names copied costs an average of $318... and Sony is probably on the hook for that.

Of course the average of $318 is more of a, hit one person for thousands and thousands while most skirt free... but you get the point.

Peoples bank accounts and such are at risk despite CC info not being taken because of the propensity at which most people repeat passwords.

77 Million X 318 = 23 Billion.

Then you throw in a few million here and there fore rebuilding the market, lost buisness, legal fees, dealing with all the government inquries, stuff like that.

Most of the above costs though would be down the line.  The lawsuits started now are silly since I THINK you need to demonstrate harm.

While I don't care personally, it's a very big deal for Sony... and a very interesting story.

AHEM

This is the ''I don't care...'' thread.

Most people are dumb. I don't understand why people can't use unique passwords for different websites. It's not THAT hard.

Out of curiousity, how many password-protected websites/services do you use? Because off the top of my head, I use 23, not counting personal-amusement ones (i.e. videogame forums). That's a lot of passwords and usernames to remember...

Probably around 15 websites / Games.

Count me impressed at your ability to sort them all out on demand, then! Mine are all gibberish phrases/combos, so keeping them sorted is too much for me.

You know they did invent paper a while back. You could write them down somewhere. I only memorize the ones for accessing my bank, email and laptop. Most other sites stay logged in anyway, locking the laptop works fine, no need to dig up the passwords all the time.

I'll change my psn password when it's back up just to be safe, and maybe my bank will give me a call to confirm next time I buy something on psn. Other then that I'm kinda enjoying some quiet time without login/logout notices, and have been able to finish a few games and enjoy some movies without GT5 online taking up most of my time.

I have to say that a person who doesn't have a unique password for his online banking is pretty f$ck&ng stupid!

So yeah, agreed.

I only care until PSN comes back.

Ditto. I only care until it comes back so I can resume playing, synching my trophies and buying more stuff from the PS Store.

You said it better

plus one for you guys

edit: I'd bet the majority of the people blowing this up like it's the end of the world are people who almost never use their ps3's or don't even own one

Hence the reason for this thread :)

You can not care and be accurate.

If this was the downplaying the Sony being hacked case thread you'd have a point.  To call someone looney based on security analysts predictions isn't not caring.  It's just... kinda ignorant... I was pointing out what the figure came from.

I don't care about Hockey... but if someone talked about how stupid a game it was because there were too many homeruns and everyone was using steroids... i'd feel the need to point out they were talking about baseball.

I just slayed the first boss in Shrine of Storms, so I'm going to go and play some more demon's souls and not really reply since you have a point right there and I admit the grammar of my thread leaves a lot to be desired.

*hmmm how should I spend my 30 000 souls now*

But I seriously doubt that the figure will be anywhere nere what some 'experts' are saying.

Thank you, a thread not sponsored by 360 fanboys, hyperbole or complete bullshit.

This effects me very simply:

From the time that PSN is down until it is back up, PSN will be down until it is back up.

Beyond not being able to play Portal 2 online for a few days, I could care less.

HEHEHE, this is my only gripe as well :)

Oh wait... After finishing Portal I started playing Demon's Souls, so I'm kind of itching to experience the online in that as well...

I won't be responsible from any loses according to my bank, so I'm satisfied. They'll give me another card if something happens. :)

I'm still more angry at all the damn hacker bastards for starting all this hacking bullshiat especially GH.

I care and trust me it's a big issue and interesting story in my opinion.

It's not that I don't care about the whole PSN topic, I'm more pissed of about all these mis-information circuling around the net; people claiming they lost money from the bank giving no proof other than a post(and G4 actually ran with this), that "Sony could pay 23-24 billion", 2.2 million credit cards numbers are up for sale. though it's false it just adds to the overractions and hysteria and damaging Sony's name even futher.(I think the only station whose actually repoting the cituation clealy is MSNBC)

another thing is that people are making it seem that it 100% Sony's fault,(not that they can't share some of the blame) like they just downloaded some antivirus protection online and there computer technicians are cavemen with rocks. Sony isn't the only national/international corp, to get hack, hell I believe even NORAD and the FBI securities were breached. It probably takes awhile to go through 77 million accounts while also re-biulding/improving the PSN's infrastructure so an attack like this doesn't happen again an probably why updates are slow.

-this comes from a person who know very little about the tech side of the world.(and my opinion on this matter)

I don't really care because there is no CC info tied to my PSN account.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
