Forums - Sales Discussion - So Vgchartz Pro has arrived...

I don't see what the big deal is. Its like PS plus, the free users stay with what they had, and the plus  users get more. Ill probably pay, just to help the site out.

ioi didn't announce that certain tools we had yesterday would be going away suddenly. The data is all here, but we get it presented less easily than before, and it wasn't made clear in the VGC Pro announcement that this would happen.

I particularly dislike the huge gap between free service and $10,000 service. There should be at least an intermediate service for say <$100 a year that gives slightly more options - complete top 40. At least trial it to see whether uptake is enough to sustain it. It wouldn't lower uptake for the expensive service if the feature set was just right.

ioi, I think your site will be superseded by someone doing a FREE service with more tools but much less accuracy (done in someone's spare time with small samples). Like VGC was to NPD, only you're now the expensive, accurate tracker.

I can only view the top 40 sellers of the week? Vgchartz is officially mediocre at best.

Potentially, I'm not sure how many would go for it though. Paying to do view sales data purely for enjoyment does seem a bit too much for most people.

That's the reason nearly all of the older users joined the site though. :-/

To pay to view sales data?

Actually, I think he meant to view sales data purely for enjoyment.

BTW ioi, even though we can view how a game is selling in it's 67th week for example in those graphics, is there a way we can see how much it sells weekly (not cumulative LTD)??

Yes. I meant that I enjoyed looking at sales purely for enjoyment. That was main reason I joined 4 years ago.

thats a shame,so i can't see the top 30 PS3 figures anymore or pay a subcription because i'm not industry

feels like we're being squeezed out,i understand why you need money but i think alot of us did come here for the sales charts to whoever was saying we didn't

oh well, good luck with the pro scheme i hope it works out because i genuinely like the site and have visited almost everyday for a long time as i'm sure alot of us have

What is the point of taking away these features if the only subscription method is going to be in the thousands of dollars?  You obviously don't expect any of the long time users to pay it.  Is a company not going to buy Pro if they can see weekly data without jumping through hoops?

Honestly, at this point, I am considering leaving  Vgchartz and wishing them the worst, but they still have what I want, just not as much of it. This is my current thoughts on Vgchartz though...

Cons: Late when delivering news

The occassionally extremely biased news article

Their orignials(gamrsnack,Caption this, etc.) are poor

Reviews pale in comparison to other sites

Removed features(or at least have to pay for them), and not having a way for the average Joe to look at these features.

Forums missing features.

Pros: Still give out numbers

Slightly better than average community.

I just wanna say that I joined this site because of d21lewis... not the numbers...  his sexiness lured me to this site..

Well it worked for alot of other sites, so im sure this is not going to stop. Why do we have to be in some kind of business to get pro? I just happen to have stock in EA or I would have nothing to help me sign up. I left showbizdata.com and billboard.com when they changed there content to pay, and hopefully they will not take too much away from here or the same thing will happen with alot of people. I will pay if the price is just a few bucks a month though. Maybe they should just get some better ads if they want more money? I mean most of these ads on here are the internets version of infomercials. Look at the IGN site! They always have top names on there advertisments. I just dont know.

You don't have to be in some kind of business but it is likely that only businesses (in other words people who want the data for financial gain) will be able to afford the subscriptions. We're talking the order of thousands of dollars per year not tens or hundreds.

On the subject of ads - we have had a great partner for the last 12 months with some hugely successful campaigns - on par with what you would expect at sites IGN. This will only continue but doesn't escape the fact that the data collection side of the business isn't viable on ad revenues alone.

Yea, you really have had some high profile ads.  I've even started to notice some Discover Card ads and whatnot.

One thing I have a question about, however, is the advertisements in the forums.  It has gotten to the point where I actually have to mute my computer when browsing forums because I've had as many as 4 advertisements begin automatically playing on a single page.  While I know that you need money from advertisements, with potentially a lot more money coming in, would it be possible to limit the auto play ads to 1 per page with the remaining ads as display ads?  It's just one of those small things that I think would make the experience better as I kind of like listening to music when browsing the internet, but have gotten to where I can no longer do that on the forums here.

Edit: Also, what browser is that you are using?

Strange, I don't get any ads at all for the foruns, only the ones at the main page appear (and the background ones).

Well, right now its just 4 display ads, 2 spots where there is 2 ads posted right next to each other, but sometimes it decides to be 4 of the exact same video that all start at different times, which can be extremely annoying.  And I'll bet you have ads but just don't notice it.  Look after the 1st and 9th posts on every single page = an advertisement.  Plus every so often when you visit the site the main page comes up as saying it will self destruct in 30, 29, 28...etc seconds...or skip it.

Edit: Plus there's always one at the way top of the forums.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Well... it could be worse. But be warned VGChartz. Publically available data is the only thing that sets you apart, other than the fact that you're always two days late with the news. If you restrict this info much more, people will get the full VGChartz experience by reading the data being copied and pasted onto some forum.

Love and tolerate.

Haha, this is rich.  Entertaining thread will keep me entertained for quite some time. <3
